Bow string length?
« on: March 30, 2011, 11:41:00 PM »
I know I can get an answer here in just a few seconds so here goes:
A friend of mine just bought an old Bear 76er, 50#@28", but nowhere on the bow does it say what the AMO length is.  He wants a new bowstring but doesn't know what length string to buy.  I advised him to only get a dacron string as these old bows aren't D-97 ready  So the question is,
How does he measure the bow to get the correct string length.  Like, I said, nothing but the weight is visible on the limbs, and riser...Thanks folks,
John

Measure around the curve on the belly side of the limb straight through the riser back up the other curve notch to notch and subtract 3.5" . that should bring you in at about 7.5 to 8" brace. or lower. You can twister up to adjust.

the B-50 dacron is a safe bet too. IMO

What KirkII said...If the limbs are the brown, one-piece solid fiberglass (no wood) Bear 76er, Take Down Hunter, or Patriot, I have one like it. With bow unstrung, starting at one string loop groove and measured along the limb, thru the riser, to the other groove..my 50# at 28" bow measures 58" so it is needs a 58" AMO string that measures ~ 55"+/- from loop to loop stretched b/t two qrt-inch bolts.

Sorry for the delay in my "thanks for the advice"..wife was in the hospital for 6 days and I was running back and forth and no time for checking in here at the gang.  Again, thanks!  I'll let him know.
