After 18 years, my heart has the need to confess my love affair. Her name is Sue. I first heard about her in February of 1993. It began innocently enough when an friend who lived in Gonzales, Jeff Massie told me about her. Even though I was yet to meet her, Jeff’s description was so revealing, that I immediately had true feelings for her. The deep tanned complexion, long narrow shapely limbs tapering down to the daintiest tips. It would be 6 weeks before I could see her in person. I literally dreamed of the day I could touch her and claim her as mine.
That day finally arrived in April of that same year. Jeff and his wife brought her to me. The four of us met in Salado, a small historic town in central Texas, about half way between my home and Gonzales. The occasion was a Traditional Archery Tournament hosted by the Chisholm Trail Bowhunters. For my part, it was truly “love at first sight”. Somehow I knew that she too already had strong feelings for me. Knowing this would be her first time, I gently slid the string over her upper tip and then placed it in position on the lower. She flexed those long supple limbs and allowed me to slide the top loop over her narrow tip. She felt wonderful. Her response to my touch was immediate. She encouraged me for more. We spent the afternoon together and afterwards the two of us collected the 2nd Place Trophy in the Longbow Division. We both understood this was to be a long, lasting love affair.
Since that day long ago, we have traveled to several states together as Sweet Sue enjoys hunting as much as I. Ashamedly, I must admit there have been others over almost two decades. I had a short fling with the widow from Missouri. Then there was Rose Wood from the border of Scotland and there was that feisty little shrew firecracker from Michigan. But through it all, Sweet Sue remained faithful, all 5'4" of her, patiently waiting for my return. Many have offered to buy her, but that will never happen. We will always be together.
If by chance some of you should happen to see me at a 3D shoot, or share a hunting camp fire with me, you simply have to ask and I’ll be more than happy to introduce you to my sweet mistress of almost two decades.
One other thing, did I happen to mention, my wife's name is "Sue"?
