a question on Fred Bear's Polar Bear

Is it true that Fred Bear Killed his Polar Bear with a 40# bow?? And if so, did he do it with all three polar bears??
From what I heard, he used a 40# recurve because he said he could draw it back quicker than he could with his 65# recurve he normaly uses.

I don't saying he did he may have dew to all the stuff he wore to keep warm.

I haven't heard that before, but I doubt that anyone who could pull 65# would take a 40# bow to hunt Polar Bear.

Drawing the bow quicker would not be as much of a factor as making a good shot and getting good penetration. I believe Fred would have saved the 40# bow for snow hare or grouse.

No, Fred did not use a 40# bow.  He shot it with a 65# Kodiak.  His first two he shot had to be stopped with a back up rifle but the 3rd was killed with just one arrow at 50 yds.

Go to your public library and ask them to get you, "Fred Bear's Field Notes", by Fred Bear.
Then, after you read that, get "Trailing a Bear", by Robert Munger.

I found out that the library can get books from other libraries if they don't have it.

yeah I knew that he used 65# Kodiak. But since someone said that he used a 40# on the polar bears, I wanted to see if that was correct or not
