Sandy string?

The other night my freinds and I were out on a camping trip. Two of us decided to bring along our bows to hunt rabbits with, but the only place we could find to camp was on a sand bank by the river. During the night the wind picked up pretty bad and blew sand over everything and managed to get our bows too, which were inside the tent. The strings now are coated in sand and I fear that the sand has gone inside the sring too. How can I clean my string safely?

i'd just take it down and use some air on it maybe.not to much pressure though as you could possibly damage the strands.or maybe try opening it up some and run it under water then re-wax it when done.(maybe apply the wax before you restring bow)not real sure of either method as i have never ran into this problem.

Peter, you should be able to wash the string off. Unstring it and wash and rinse it off good and let dry. Then wax it up good! Keep an eye on it while shooting, just to be sure it wasn't damaged.

In the mean time, you should get another string for it. Should always have a spare, like tire for your vehicle!

Be a good time to learn to make strings, too.

I would just put a new string on and throw that one away. If there is any sand left in the string it will chafe the string enough to brake it down and damage your bow. Is it worth it for a few $$.
