burlap bags

I need burlap bag info.  I want to use them for targets.  I have been shooting the $1 plastic feed bags, but they don’t last very long because the plastic fibers tend to break rather than move or separate.
Anyone know anything about what is needed for a good quality bag for targets?  I assume there are differenced is the quality like weave density, material size, weight or some stuff like that.  I have found sources on-line, but I don't want to order them without some idea of what a good bag is.  Please let me know if you have found a good supplier for bags at a reasonable price and ones that hold up well.

I found a supplier about 45 miles away that I am trying to see if they will sell small quantities of bags. I think they are a manufacture and maybe just a wholesaler.

Rural king or tractor supply is where I get mine. I always double them up and use small zip ties to close.

What size do you get.  Tractor Supply only list 18"x30 on the web.  Good price at .99 each, but I would like a larger bag.

Mine look like 24"x36". They are big enough that I paint a deer size outline on them. Just front leg, back and rear leg. Got the last ones from Rural King. How many u need?

That would be an ok size.

I would like to get about 12.  I found a coffee roaster up in Grand Rapids, and we will be there this weekend.  I e-mailed to see if they have bags.  I also found a bag and packaging supplier in GR.  They make burlap bags and said I can stop in.  It sounds like they will do small amounts.  I just have to see what they have and what a small amount is for them.  I will see what I can come up with when I get up there.

When my supply of feed bags ran dry(feed store gets everything in boxes now) I went t Ames Industries. I had used their burlap bag targets years ago and thought they were out of business. Their prices are good and you can get many sizes.I also checked the local Fartbucks and was told that their coffee comes in 10lb. bags.

I bought burlap by the yard at JoAnns fabric and used a crude whip stitch and braided fishing line to make my bags.

I get large ones from a local feed store and then stuff them tightly with plastic that cover mattress's. Get it at a matt supplier,(when they deliver to a customer and set up the bed they have to bring back the plastic which they are more than glad to give you). It takes 5 queen size to tightly stuff the bag, zip ties push thru the burlap easily to close it up. Nice for my own 3D practice..Arrows pull easily and they will take a lot of shots. No problem with them getting wet either, won't hold water..

Look at Mudds trick shot post. He gets his from coffe shops. Starbucks, arabica any that grind.

Look for wool sacks. They are burlap. Stuff with shrinkwrap you collect. Full they measure about 7 feet long and 3 feet wide. I buy mine at a farm/ranch supply store about $7.00.

I will keep looking. I finaly found a feed store out in the country that has some.  All the rest of the grain elevators and feed stores i checked only had the poly bags.  The wife was going almost past it today so I had her stop to get a couple.  We will see how those look.

If you dont get them just get a few(2-3) couch cushions from an old couch on trash day and duct tape the top and bottom to hold them together. I did this and it is by far my best target to shoot at. Easy out with the arrows and stops them good to.

i have made two of these targets.  one burlap bag was from a coffee shop and another from a feed store.  The coffee shop bag was slightly larger and heavier weave.  I had everybody I know bring their plastic grocery bags to me and I stuffed the burlap bags.  both have held up very well.  I shoot them from 1-11 yards in my basement and have shot them a bunch.  you need to pack them pretty full with the grocery bags or keep rotating the burlap bag.  I think my total cost for the targets is about $4.

 If they roast a lot they will have some 100#+ bags and probably give them to you.

I roast coffee and get the big bags all the time.  Food grade bags are much better quality for targets when stuffed with Wal Mart plastic bags.

I have always been able to find them at our local feed and seed store.  Cheap and make a great target.
