Small problem there.  While its possible to use a sleeping bag in a hammock, most hammock people don't - partly for the reason you mention.  A more typical solution is to us a top quilt (or a sleeping bag if you insist) and a sleeping pad or better yet, an underquilt.

Huge problem there.  Stringing your hammock tightly is asking for trouble.  They should be strung with an appropriate amount of sag - typically the suspension should be strung about 30 degrees down from the tree.

Also, I'm guessing you are trying to lay down the center line of your hammock - bad move.  You want to sleep diagonally in a gathered end hammock like your HH.

Have a look at this ...

There's a bit of a learning curve to using hammocks. Luckily the interwebs are full of helpful info.   :)

I slept in it diagonally like you're suppposed to,er....laid down in it. Sleep was another matter entirely. I've found it a new home. Just didnt work for me. I liked the idea of it, its a pretty neat shelter. Just couldnt make it work out. As far as using a quilt or blanket, that might work fine in warmer weather, but a few 20 degree or less nights and thats right out the window.

The Kifaru paratipi I have works great, weighs about the same as the hammock or less, tons more room, and I even have a small woood stove for it.

...stood alone on a montaintop, starin out at a great divide, I could go east, I could go West, it was all up to me to decide, just then I saw a young hawk flyin and my soul began to rise......
