Bow options help
« on: April 07, 2011, 11:15:00 PM »
I just ordered my bow T/D recurve and was asked if I wanted to have it drilled out for a quiver, sites and suppressor ( I think that’s the right word)  I said I don’t know. So I am asking for help and thoughts. I have some time he said it’s the last thing he does and its going to take 14 to 16 weeks for the bow.
Hopefully you will see me as a better person today than I was yesterday..

Depends on what you wanna use the bow for and how you will shoot it.Obviously if you shoot instinctive or gap shoot you dont need sites.I would say 95 percent of the traditional bows I have seen or owned do not have sites or inserts for suppressors. Most poeple do not use sites on traditional hunting bows and you rarely see stabilizers or supressors. But some guys do use them. You can also mount bowfishing gear and stringtrackers in the same hole used for the suppressor.

You do see the quiver inserts more often.Especially on bows with larger risers.I prefer not to drill into the riser for quiver inserts personally. You can get a limb bolt quiver. So its not really necessary. Some folks do like a side quiver mount though.

I have seen some bows develop issues where the holes were drilled for the quiver inserts.

I lean toward keeping the bow clean and free of inserts etc.

You could have them added later if you really want to.

I don’t plan on putting on a site or suppressor, it was one of those should I just have it drilled out
While it was at his shop.
I want to be as close to instinctive as possible
I will admit I did think about the quiver I was not sure if the quivers you can bolt on can  cause lim problems.
thanks for your imput.
Hopefully you will see me as a better person today than I was yesterday..

I have to agree with Steelhead on this one, unless your doing some bowfishing, inserts aren't needed and IMO "ruin" the look of the bow. I don't have one of my own yet but started taking lessons with my son and all those class bows are tapped for all those contraptions. The advanced students use them all stabilizer, sights, clickers you name it. Just shot my first tourney and scored just as good using my bare bow. Even when I'm "allowed" to use them I don't plan on it, but all they plan to shoot is paper so I can't really knock 'em for it. Good luck!

Since my preferred choice is to hunt with a side quiver, my decision is easy.

No added holes!

As was said above it depends on how you want to use the bow. I also prefer a clean look on one.

I also like the clean looks of a trad bow without a bow quiver attached to it. Also, since I shoot a take down which is heavier than a one piece bow, a bow quiver full of arrows adds a lot of weight to one side. I think it affects the balance of the bow in your hand and "could", not saying it does, but could affect where the arrow impacts on the target which might be different than where the arrow would impact on the target if no bow quiver was installed on the bow.

BTW, I bowhunt with a back or side quiver since the majority of my bowhunting is from ground blinds. If I have to bowhunt from a tree or platform, I take the back or side quiver off and just lay it beside me.

No holes in any of my bows, and I hunt with a CatQuiver and shoot 3-D with a hip quiver as I can't stand a quiver on the bow.. it just gets in the way for me..

Another thought here, if you ever want to sell the bow, it will usually bring more money if there are none of the options (including your name on the bow) that you mentioned. If you ever really need any of those things, you can always add them at a later date. I might mention that even without quiver inserts, there will be many other quiver options available to you.  :)

As far as the stabilizer mount, I say get it.  If ya ever want to bowfish you'll wish ya had it, and lots of guys use a string tracker while turkey hunting.  So it is a very useable addition for hunting.

As far as quiver mount holes, since it's a TD you can always mount a quiver with the limb bolts.

So I'd go with the stabilizer mount, and no quiver holes, and NO NAME on it.

It's your bow, but if you're gonna use it for huntin' you'll probably end up usin' the stabilizer mount.  When done right you'll hardly notice it.  Good luck.

Great Northern Bow Company does offer whats called a gadget adapter for a bowfishing setup and I think it could be used for a string tracker or stabilizer. It straps on below the grip.3 Rivers Archery has them.

You wont have any problems with your limbs with a limb bolt quiver IMO and thiers many quality ones available from Kanati,Thunderhorn,Great Northern,EFA and Selway etc.

So I'm the Odd ball here I like a bow quiver I can take on and off easly in the stand or blind and I love having the option for a string tracker or fishing reel up front.  With that being said There are pretty bows and there are tools, me I have tools for hunting so I like the added inserts to keep my options open for any type of quiver or hunting needs.  IMO that is :-)

I would like to say thanks for all the input;
I have decided to go with no inserts. I don’t plan on selling the bow so my name will go it.
Thanks Robert
Hopefully you will see me as a better person today than I was yesterday..
