tru oil Question

I have read alot about people using tru oil on bows and arrows. But I typically only see 3 oz bottles.  Question is:

How many arrows can you do with a 3 oz bottle?
 (I have read 5-6 coats per arrow)

How much is used to do 1 60" bow? Is 3 oz enough?

I am just not certain how far a 3 oz bottle will actually go.

It does a ton, I don't know how you would use it all, I have no idea how many bows or arrows but several of each.

3 oz will do a number of bows 6-8 coats 3-4 bows. Shelf life is a problem so buy the little bottles and make a pin hole in the foil.

Store the bottles cap down, that way the skin that forms wont be on top impedeing flow and putting "chunks" in your finish.

I use so much I have never had mine go bad, some as long as six months. I keep mine cool, around 62-63 degrees and I give it a shake every week or so if Im not using it............I love the the stuff!

Thanks a ton guys. I just ordered a small bottle of it to test out on some arrows I will be making in the next couple of weeks.

I would imagine that the small hole in the foil with the bottle being stored upside down would probably work best?

I assume shelf life meaning once it is opened it tends to go down hill from there on?

Preferred method to hand rub or use little strips of t shirt or something?

I've have made 5 or 6 bows with one  small bottle. It really goes a long way.  Be sure to put it on in thin coats, and I like to lightly use steel wool between coats.
My preferred method of application is to use a gun cleaning patch.

I'm with Kat. I use coffee filters cut in 1/4s to apply. The gun patches sound like a good idea though. You want to use something lint free and these two things are.

Don't know if any one else has done this but when I work with True Oil or Lin Speed I take some in a small container and add a few drops of Terpentine to thin it just a bit.  The terp also acts like a drier.  I like it to be more thin than it is as it come out of the bottle....

If I have some left over after I am done I just pour it back in the bottle

I apply mine using just fingers, It didnt seem right at first and I was sure I would end up with finger prints and smudges all over but it dries perfectly.  Use 0000 steel wool between coats and apply several thin coats versus fewer thick coats.
