Woodies for a Bear Super Kodiak????

So, I put the figures in the good ol' Stu calculator for a 50#@28" Bear Super Kodiak with a B50 string and it came out that it would love to shoot 70#-75# woodies (14gr per inch), 29.25" bop, with 150gr tips. Does this seem right? I guess with the added pt. weight it would be right....

Hey Snag,
They looked stiff so I ran the numbers and came up with 60-65 spine with the 150 grn tip. I used my 27 3/4 draw and a 1/16th strike plate and stayed with your 29.25 length.
That's what it came out to if I didn't miss something.

With the new version you can stipulate the bow type...as in Bear Super Kodiak. It tells you the shelf cut out at .06" Then with the other specs it comes dead on for 29.25" w/ 150gr tips and B50 string. Seemed like with the B50 it would require less spine also..?

Maybe the calculator is telling the truth, but 60 -65s would more than likely work just fine. My Super K would handle fairly light spines with the B50 string, i went up 5 pounds spines for the fast flight.

Snag, Arrows by Kelly(Kelly Petersen)had the best wood spine chart ever. I believe it said add 5#s of spine for every inch over 28"s and than add 10#s for recurve or 15#s for high performance recurve and than another few#s for 25 grain point weight beyond 125 grains. So 10#s for the Kodiak and 5#s for the arrow length is 65#s and add a couple for 150 grain point. I myself would say the same and shoot 65-70# spine. I actually have a 50# Grizzly and I draw 28.5"s and shoot 29.5" 65-70# woodies off it with great flight. Shawn

For your combination of variables, I think the better starting point would be a 65# spine.

For a 150 gn point 60-65 spine @ 27" should be about right. If your shooting @28"to 29" draw then 65-70 should work.Thats just my best calculation from experiance.

I remember that spine chart Shawn. I do believe that will do it. Just didn't want to be underspined. You can always go longer with the shaft, but too short and they become kids arrows! haha
Stan, that's the spine I have coming! Good to be reassured.
Thanks,David
