Old Woodies

Does anyone else like old wood arrows? I
been picking up old wood arrows different places and find they are still as good as the new ones. I just lucked out and got 18 old Ben Pearson arrows with 15 of them with broadheads for about $3 bucks a arrow. I also got a dozen old Bears with broadheads for a low price.

How lucky can one guy get. Back in the 60's I used to find old arrows behind the targets at an archery range. I wish I still had some of those.

I like 'em, but never find them in a useable draw length.

i just started back in to trad archery and the old woodies after 25 years. i got these all from a guy i used to buy his used arrows 25 years ago for 50 cents a piece. i gave him 5 victor traps that a buddy gave me, heres my find so far.
11 bear with razor tips orange feathers
2 bear with razor tips white feathers.
1 fiberglass bear with razor tip
all with 1964 razor tips and a few bleeders
1 with ben pearson with large deadhead
13 mix of woodies no names some field tips some just tapered no feathers
2 i dont know one with plastic hilbre broadhead with the razor insert, bleeder and one just plastic no razor or bleeder
all pretty straight lil hand bumping and good to go. im making spiral fluflus out of the ones that need feathers. the stumps better watch out.
oh and 1 easton x7 tiny lil thing only 25 inches long no feathers
12 nos poc shafts for free with the bow i traded for. he offerd me like 40 or so. now i wish i would have taken them all. but being new to it all i did not know any better. only took a dozen. if i knew then what i know now.
and i want more many many more. the better half just does not get it but i do for sure.
happy wood arrow hunting to you all

I have 6 old arrows. I would like to use them but am a bit unsure of their spine. Pretty sure they were made in the early 60's.

I try to buy any I find. I just keep them for inspiration though, not shooting.

I love them too much to shoot them...which is why I don't buy them.
On the other hand, I never find them over 28". Most of them I've seen are 26".

Always too short. Those old archers must have broken the tips off and had to cut and taper them shorter...

I actually have had hundreds over the years, most were to short 28"s bop it seems. I need 29"s bop minimum and like 29.5"s. My favorite old one are the fiberglass from MJ log and micro-flites. I never keep stuff that I can't use and pass it on, $3 a piece man I would of made hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I gave most of them away with bows I sold to get the person shooting right away. I buy all the old arrows I can afford. I prefer Microflites for hunting over carbons and aluninum, they are nice and heavy, and they stay striaght. I use all the old woodies for squirrel hunting, I try to find my misses but if I don't, they will return to the soil. Bill

I love finding them when I can and yes they are short most of the time so I just make sure they are safe then give those to kids. When I can get a 30in plus the spine is always week but I will press on in my search.Good luck to everyone with your old woods,,,,,,,Sam,,,,,,,
