problem with my new bow
« on: June 21, 2007, 05:54:00 PM »
I bought a mikuta td recurve about a month or two ago and I still cant hit crap with it, it is 50@31, which is supposed to be around 45#s @28, but it feels like much more, I have a 45# selfbow that I still hit extremly well with, but I still cant hit @#$% with the recurve, it is a beautiful bow and I would love to be able to shoot it, but I just cant, is there anything I can try besides dropping poundage?

Have you put it on a bow scale to verify the weight at 28"?  If it's way over, I'd ask for a refund, unless you bought it used, which is another story.  What length is the bow?  If it's very short, it may not be suitable for your draw length; too much finger pinch, and it may be stacking at your draw, which would explain why it feels heavier than it should be.  Play with arrows, brace height, nock point, all the usual suspects if the bow meets the above criteria.  Some bows just don't suit a person's shooting style, and if that's the case, I'd send it down the road so someone else can enjoy it and you can find something that works for you.  Good luck, Paul.

What spine arrows are you using. They might be to light or to heavy. Are they grouping left, right. If your pulling a true 28" the bow will be around 41,42 #

the arrows are not grouping any particular way, I am shooting 45-50 spine arrows, the bow is definately over 45#s of pull, I compared it to a 45#longbow and it feels much heavier

50# @ 31"?
That should put it right around 41# @ 28"
Better get someone with a scale to verify the actual weight.

I dont have a scale, all I know is it feels a lot like 48-50#s @28, before I bought it, I thought my draw was 27 1\\2in, so the guy I got it from checked it on his scale @ 27 and it was 45#s
