Bear take downs & limbs
« on: April 21, 2011, 10:38:00 AM »
Kind of a new guy on here but have been reading posts for awile.I bought an early green stripe riser in Feb. with red tip limbs, num.1s ,46# and want to get 55#ers for hunting. My questions are to all that are more noligable than I.Is my riser ok with f.f.,are all limbs about the same as far as speed and smoothness includeing the new ones if anyones shooting them.I'm coming off a 55# super kodiak and have no prob. with it but my arms can't take the weight all year anymore.I'm just looking for the best power with 600gn. arrows.   Thanks   Dan

If you want the best bow possible,do yourself a favor and get a set made by Rose Oak.Rose Oak can be found in the sponsors list at the top of the page. They are fast flight compatible and will make the bow faster and quieter. They totally transformed my bear takedowns,so much so that right after recieving them,I sold all three sets of Bear limbs. You should be able to do a search and find what others have said about them.

Dan,

I have an older “B” riser that you can see pictures of on the other fourm that you belong to. I also put a set of Rose Oak limbs on mine and have been shooting a FF string for almost 17 months now. At least 1000 shots with no ill effects, so far.

If, you were to get a set of 55lb. FF limbs and were not too keen on them, I have a set of 55lb. Green tipped limbs that I would trade you for in a heartbeat.

Buy a set from Bear. They should have them in stock and the new ones are FF compatable. Or check that auction site, you see them on there from time to time.

I second the after-market limbs by Brandon. I have two pair; #1 and #3.  I like the #3 on A risers anbd #1 on B risers.

I have a new 2011 TD A Riser coming at week's end (I ordered it on January 7th).  Also a pair of Bear #3 limbs. I've talked to the folks at Bear a bunch over the past 3 months. The limbs and the risers are a several week wait -- I thought I could pick up a pair of #1's but they said it would take several weeks. I have another pair of Rose Oak limbs due in Ocotober.

If I read your post correctly you wrote your arms are complaining about your 55# Super K?  I don't understand then why you want to get 55ers for your TD?  I can attest that 46# is fine and dandy for white-tail deer -- I hunt exclusively with 45-48# recurves (at my 26# draw) and have no complaints.

Daniel,
I re-read your post more carefully.  I get it now, you don't want to shoot the 55#ers all year.  I don't have a drop of empirical evidence to write this but I'd be willing to bet a set of 50# Rose Oaks would perform better than 55# Bear Limbs. Of course there's that long wait again.  However, there are folks out there with more Rose Oaks than the need. My favorite pair (red cedar-veneered #3) were obtained from a fine fellow in used but PERFECT condition from the classifieds here.  Unfortunately, you are 85 possts from being able to post a Want To Buy ad in the classifieds.

I was thinking of getting a set of the new red tips,3 rivers has them, but wanted more info before i did anything.I saw them at denton last year and was impressed.Really nice tips compaired to the blocky ones i've seen.Hey Scout,If the ligaments in my elbows were not shot I'd be glad to help you out on the 46#ers and shoot 60 all year but... Thanks again,Dan

I have quite a few Bear TD and I think the Rose Oak are great limbs. The factory are not really bad too if you draw 28" or less. The white first limbs are by far the best of them!

I ordered a pair of #3 limbs from Bear for a customer on Feb 1 and I am still waiting on them.  I would expect 2-3 months on new Bear limbs.  The 2011 limbs are much better than 2010 but they are awfully popular, too.

Big Jim had a set of new Bear TD limbs on his rack a couple of weeks ago. I can't remember the poundage, I think they were 45 or 50.
