Maine Pending Record Turkey
« on: April 23, 2011, 11:49:00 AM »
These are the Monster daggers of off my pending state record bow kill from a couple springs ago, well i have found another monster turkey and have about six hours of watching him in the field and crossing the blacktop road, he has got some hooks, well this spring i hope is going to be special, i am getting tired of my compound bows again and have spent half of the winter and spring tuning my Kodiak Magnum and stump shooting at least everyday i can get out, i switched from three fingers under to true instinctive and May 3rd starts our turkey season here in Maine, i hope to be able to set up and call this monster in and harvest him with my Kodiak and a old bear broadhead, i have about $2500 in new compounds sitting on the wall and they are about to go to the classified section of somewhere and i have always wanted a Black Widow take down and this spring if i can get within range and harvest my turkey be it the monster or any other bearded turkey i will probably come home and put all three on the sale rack and go back to traditional, a shoulder injury sent me back to  compound shooting 4 years ago when i hyper extended my shoulder and i thought i was done, i started out with a Mathews Monster 50# bow and was able to start shooting again and worked my shoulder and now have been able to shoot a 45# recurve after about 100 shots i still feel the pain but it keeps getting better so that is my story and i hope to be able to come back to this post with my bird and show you how things have changed and i am back to my stick and string

very nice job on the spurs! and congrats on your bird. hopefully your shoulder holds up and you can shoot traditional for along time. but if not dont be ashamed for shooting your mathews. archery is enjoyed no matter what your equipment choice. im still a die hard compound guy. and good luck on your turkey!

Wow! That is a nice set of spurs!  I think thats the ultimate trophy in turkey hunting. Big turkeys are great, long beards look cool, but long heavy spurs only come with age.  Good luck!

this one i have been watch since last November is a monster i have been able to keep on the target out to about twenty yards, so i think if i spot him or another big Ole Tom and i really settle in and let "Old Fred Bear" guide me in my shot i will be happy or just be happy i got the chance to shoot.

This here was the first traditional harvest i had shooting a Bear Kodiak Hunter 45# and it was about 110# deer and that same fall i shot a 209# 9-Point and i thought while i was holding the rack that day, this is nice but it doesn't feel as special as that Doe i shot with one of "Old Fred Bears" Kodiak Hunters this fall.
It was special, in a way of its own but this is what keeps us hunting every fall.
