Strap on Quiver placement
« on: April 30, 2011, 05:29:00 PM »
Hey guys,  I would like to know the proper placement for a strap on quiver.  The bow is a Cooks Mountain "El Puma" and the quiver is a Kanati.  My son wants to use it for turkeys and I don't want to damage the bow.  Sorry if this has been dealt with 100 times before but I am fairly new to the Trad archery gear and till now didn't really think of the actual placement.  Thanks in advance.  Jeff

Jeff, not much chance of hurting the bow but you just want to keep the attachment off the working limb. You will hear people refer to the "fades" or "fadeouts".that refers to the end of the riser where it gets thin and "fades into the limb.Just stay back off that pointed fade so that you aren't on the flexing part of the limb base.If you got it out on the working part of the limb,it might adversely affect shooting.Sorry,I'm not familiar with your bow.

This isn't a real clear picture but maybe you can get an idea. The end of the riser is about 1/2" thick where the straps are.

O.K. so keep it on the very end of the riser, so to speak?  And the bow was made in Idaho, and its a keeper!!

Just don't leave it on the bow for an extended time. I left mine on a Morrison for a while and it imprinted the finish.

Maybe this is more clear. The dark wood is the riser. You can see how the fadeout tapers inbetween the maple limb laminations.I just want to keep my connections back off the limbs in an area that doesn't flex so that the limb isn't fighting against the quiver to do it's job.

Jeff

JimB Has a great photo of a good location for your quiver to be mounted. The Kanati Pro has a wider limb channel so that it can ride closer to the handle in a thicker area of the fades. You want have any trouble mounting a bow quiver there. Enjoy!
