Bearpaw fletching jig
« on: May 03, 2011, 11:29:00 PM »
Anyone have an insight into this jig from Kustom King, as compared to Blintzenburg (sp??) jigs?

I have one. Its a good fletcher and does a fine job. That being said I wish I  would have spent a little more money and got the Bitzenburger. You can dial it in for fine tuning and its metal. So any glue residue you get on your jig can be scraped off without any damage to you jig. Just my 2 cents.

I also have one, I agree with Three Finger. Works real well. But I do have to clean frequently, excess glue. Good Luck

Thanks for the reviews, I own Bitz's, and was thinking of trying one of the Bearpaws.

Ive owned one and sold it and got me a Jojan.
The plastic clamp is a pain in the a** to clean of residue glue and over time i scraped some plastic of with the glue and it wouldnt hold the feathers tight to the shaft in all places after a while.

Wouldnt buy it again, but thats just my 2cents.

I have one and like it a lot....if I used glue instead of fletching tape I would put wax on the clamp to prevent glue from sticking.

Jojan's are good, my brother has used one for years, with good results. That said, Get the Bitz.. I've been using the same one for 30 years, just as good today as it was then.. THE BEST you can buy..IMO

Try fletch tape. No mess to deal with at all.

Also to save $$$$....

I'm not sure about the bear paw but the martin and possibly the glayling accept Bitz's clamps.

Might be a quality compromise if you feel the need for a metal clamp.

That's right on the Grayling, Zradix. It does accept the Bitz clamps.

ok...I have a grayling and like it fine.
Just don't have a bitz clamp to try...lol.

So that means martin, grayling and bitz all have interchangeable clamps if needed.

Wonder about the bear paw....????

If you run a bead of glue that is half the width of your feather quill you shouldn't have glue getting all over the clamps.  I also know that Duco cement does not dissolve transparent tape so you could put that on the clamp edges and peel off when done fletching.
