We now have 3 more trad bowhunters/shooters in the land! One is a long time friend, minister, got out of bow hunting a few years back due to time restraints, still gun hunted, mentioned he wanted to get back into it. I got a used Darton riser from a broken wheelie bow, did some machine work on my milling machine, added a #50 set of Quinn limbs, rest, quiver and made a string, he picked it up this evening. He aske how much, I told him it was payback for all he had done for me thru the years.
Next in line was another local mennonite youth, he had been watching his cousins shoot their trad bows that I had fixed up for them, so he really wanted one. His dad gave me the money for a new set of Greatree limbs, $58, and I machined a old pearson riser down to a tolerable weight, got it free from the junk box at lockal pro shop, fixed it for recurve limbs, made a string, some paint and a rest, and donated the riser and my work. It made #35 at his draw now, about #45 as he grows, if he is as tall an long armed as his brother!
Last but not least, my brother in law, took his first few deer with recurve as a kid, killed a bunch with a wheelie, but decided he needed a recurve to do some bowfishing. I traded for a used Bear Grizzly, 58"#50, and put in an insert, mounted a reel and rest, bought some line and a fish arrow, told him happy birthday, it was an early present. I am a firm believer compound bows are a passsing fad! LOL! Now I have 3 more trad enthusiast to shoot with. Just thought I would share.
