No Wax

Anyone ever snap a Dacron string that was never waxed after it was made? How many shots, frayed all silly like? I've heard some never wax the string after it is made, wax is just to make it easier for laying together.

Swamp, wax is like greasing a bearing. Yes, it is used to help in the twisting procces of flemish strings, also! But it can be done without.

The manufactures bond the wax on. You can get waxed or no wax fiber! Just like some small engines, come without oil in the case!

The shooting process will cause alot of friction, friction = wear, wear.... can cause.... FAILURE!  Your choice.

what fb just said - a bowstring without wax is not a good thing and will fail sooner than later.  flemish strings require a goodly amount of wax, too.

Curious. Wouldn't wax hold dirt and grit therefore hastening wear and abrasion?

Bd, yes it can! Dust covers, maybe? Are ya dragging your stick in the dirt?  :D

Kinda like wearing a rain coat that isn't waterproof. Protects the string from the elements.

I give mine a good waxing after I make it & usually after every 200 arrows or so.

IMHO I'd rather have a little too much wax on my strings than not enough, sure helps keep the rain out & my bows shooting more consistently than I can
