Ron at KME....WOW
« on: May 20, 2011, 05:44:00 PM »
I guess laziness is a part of getting old. I just got myself some Zwickey 2 blade Deltas in and was about to begin the sharpening process along with a few Pearson Deadheads and Schulz Hunter heads.

Then I thought...hey...maybe Ron at KME will do me the favor and sharpen them for me. After all, my hunting buddy Mike and I always visit his shop when we're bowhunting Jersey....and Ron did ask me to make the trip with him to Ray Hammonds last year...   :p

So...I had Mikey drop off the heads Wednesday....Saturday a package arrived here from KME. I opened it and noticed the broadheads were in small zip lock bags and wrapped 300 times with Saran wrap.    :readit:

As I reached in the first bag...OW! Sticking out was the TRAILING EDGE OF A DELTA and I now had blood dripping on my work bench....   :help:

Mother of God....when I carefully removed each and every head and checked them out, I realized I could never get them as sharp as Ronnie did...and I'm pretty good at getting shaving sharp edges on my heads.

I can't thank you enough Ronnie...you have a package in the mail arriving Sat to show my thanks.

That's awesome! I would like to get one of the KME sharpeners. I thought I read somewhere that he is making some other type of jig or improvement????? Any word about that?

I had the same experience when I had Ron sharpen some Grizzlys about 3 years ago.You have to see and experience it to believe it.

What I learned from the onery buggar is that most good heads are hard enough metal that setting the new bevel is what discourages us pikers!

Get him to jig them up and do it for you. Once that amazing new bevel is set, it's a whisk to keep it with his BH pro or the knife sharpener.

Getting the original angle changed can make you loose yer religion!

I concur..he's a bit of a magician with metal and bevels!

I love the jig.  Doc Nock is right in that it did suck on the first pass.  I ruined a Zwickey by taking too much off without thinking about what I was doing.  When I was finished I bet I didn't have 1/8" left on that side.  Just goes to show that anyone can screw up a nearly fool proof setup.  Thankfully after that messup I was able to sharpen my Muzzy Phantom SS with no problem.

Good one Joe. Ron's tireless customer service adds to KME bulletprof quality. Best IMO.

You guys keep inflating the bosses ego and I won't be able to ride in the front seat with him anymore.  :bigsmyl:
Ron is the man when it comes to sharpening stuff.  That's why they call him Sharpster.

Well I certainly wasn't going to pass up the chance to sharpen broadheads for you Joe.  :readit:

Thanks very much to everyone for the kind words.   :notworthy:

From what I hear Ron, if you chloroform Joe you'll miss out on most of the fun. He's been known to tell a tale or two. At least that is what people who know him better than I do are always saying. You both have personalities that make people like me want to do businee with ya. Keep up the good work.

How does a guy get in touch with Ron? I'm thinking about trying some grizzlys again but I think I'll pay to have the bevel set this time.

Maybe next year Ron...I just worked very hard at learning to shoot LEFT HANDED. Since I was a switch hitter in baseball, thought I like to learn to shoot both right and lefty.

So far....after 3 months, I feel confident I will put a whitetail on the ground this fall lefty. I put a lot of time and hard work in mastering shooting left handed, so maybe next year I can spend the weekend with you guys flinging some arrows at those "fake targets".....

By the way...the stuff I sent ya...you have to ask Mikey about the large 8 pt he took in CT...talk about a "TALE"...THE STUFF WORKS....
