shot myself to a nub
«
on:

I leave in 5 days. I have been shooting two or three hundred arrows a day. My left shoulder is shot  . I'm so pumped about Africa I can't quit shooting. The more I shoot the poorer I shoot. I know better I need to quit for 4 or 5 days and let my shoulder heal but how do I stop this close to a hunt. It is funny how a man can know better but have so little control over hisself

take your time with it. focus on your quality and take your time between shots. the advice given to me was to shoot 3 arrows at a time then walk to get them and stretch.

this afternoon was like watching a train wreak. I was so frustrated I could not even remember how to shoot my bow at all. I was so tired I almost couldn't get my bow to full draw. Then once I got it back I was sweating so bad I couldn't hold on to it. Total Melt down . I went back out tonite and shot 12 arrows with a clear head. Pulled them all with one hand.

You need to stop shooting and clear your mind. You do not want to get over there and just fling arrows. You already know how to shoot. do not shoot anymore till you are in africa, then shoot one arrow at a time and concentrate with a clear head. Good luck.

OK.....Try this.....
Take your bow and ONE arrow out to shoot.
If it doesn't limit the number of shots you take,at least it will slow you down.
(and look at all the EXERCISE you'll get LOL)

Boy have I ever been through the same thing you are going through before. I've struggled with the shoulder for years as well.
It's easy to fall into the "must shoot more" thought process. You just can't let the mind over-ride what you already know. You've been successful as an accurate archer for long enough to know not to let your mind tell you to do what you are doing. It's all instinct now. The physics of archery accuracy are already there. Let the muscles rest along with the anxiety of your mind. Remember that archery in a hunting environment is much more mental than it ever has been physical. Sounds like you need to practice some breathing right now and quit letting the mind play games with your physical body. You are ready! Let your body rest. It's ready too! Good luck on the hunt. I'm sure it will be quite memorable.

Here is another trick that might work.....
Take your bow and quiver full of arrows, (and that doesn't mean a garbage can strapped to your back either) and shoot ONE quiverfull of arrows. THEN YOU ARE DONE FOR THE DAY!!!!!
After my Dad had his heart by-pass operation. The Drs. told him he could walk to the end of the sidewalk and back,ONCE A DAY. The first day it took him about 5 minutes!!!!! He set looking out the window for the rest of the day thinking "Boy,THAT was quick!!!!!" After a few days he was taking an hour or more to walk to the end of the sidewalk.
Like Curtiss said.....Your body knows what to do,It's your MIND that wants to practice!!!!!
We all know that you REALLY want to practice.....You just need to SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!

BUFF, get ahold of yourself, man!! Find something to occupy(sp?) yourself. Unstring that bow and let it alone. I read once that practice is only as good as you make it, and I believe it!! Plus it sounds like you're getting inside your own head. Take your wife out, go out with the guys, go fishin', just find something else to do!!!

Did you know, That if you draw a broadhead back that has been sharpened on the back side of the blade, you don't have to touch your finger very hard at all to cut the dickens out of it? Just for the record Silver Flame broadheads are really sharp. I only shot 12 times tonite. My wife took my bow away from me. It is good to have someone around you are afraid of

Um..Buff??? Piece of advice that I think you just learned the hard way...Don't use your finger for a draw check when shooting Silver Flames.
Dr. Ashby didn't name these the number 1 broadhead in it's class for nothing.
And listen to your wife.
I'm going to Africa in August with Visser's and I'm shooting maybe 6 arrows every other night. Quality vs. Quantity! Six arrows in the bull, one at a time, walk up and get it then walk back and shoot it again.
