Is there such a thing...an affordable moose hunt?

A buddy and I are wanting to do a Moose hunt that doesn't break the bank. We are both DIY hunters so a guide is not necessary. Any one have any past experiences on the do's and don'ts or the where to go or not to go? Any information or ideas would be great.
Thanks in advance

I'm lurking in the shadows cause I've had the same question for 3-4 years.

If you are thinking Alaska, you might check 40 Mile Air (Tok, AK) or Northern Air (Kotzebue, AK). Haven't been with either, but they were recommended and are on a short list for a similar hunt I have been looking at.

Maine, NH and Vermont all have a moose lottery and none of them require guides.

If I ever get drawn in Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont I will hire a guide to up my once in a lifetime chance at a moose in any of those states. I don't know if you are interested in a cow tag but your odds are much better at drawing one. Next year I am going to start checking the cow tag box because I want to shoot a moose with my bow.

I've been keeping eyes on the Maine option for a while. I think that would be a pretty place and a moderatly affordable hunt.

Not to change the subject or hijack but merely to add to it:
Is there any places where you can buy affordable Over the Counter tags and have a decent huntable population?

If going to Alaska, I would recommend keeping the focus on moose and not try to combine with caribou or another species.
If you want both, my experience showed that a person could be dropped into an area with lesser chances for either. Good luck...and take lots of pics.

TR, Just a suggestion. If you put moose in the title of your thread, people would have some idea of what it was about. You'd get more responses.
Cross off Canada - that's guided. Most if not all the states are draw. That leaves AK, expensive to get there from ND and you would also need to hire a float plane. For that kind of money you could probably find a Canada guided hunt and be able to drive there. I'm doing that this year for around 3. Take the crosses off Canada.
