Grinder for tapers?
«
on:

I have an 8 in bench grinder I'd like to build a contraption for so I can do my nock and point tapers. Has anyone made anything similar and or have any pics of what they have made? My goal is to get a better point taper than I have with the taper tool. I've switched to D-fir and it chips more than POC.
I haven't posted a lot here but wanted to say what a great site this is! I sure have read a lot here and continue to learn after 20+ years!
Thanks!!

Hi Tim,
I made a taper guide from plywood, just used a protractor to lay out 2 lines at proper angle, then cut v-grooves with a router and straitedge. Clamp it to the disc grinder table and grind, turning the arrow in the v-groove.
Could prob make a stop on it also to keep length right, but I went to carbon and gave mine away! Sorry, don't think I have any pics.

Thank you sir. That's what I had in mind but just wondered what others have come up with!

Thats the same thing I did, the stop is really necessary to keep the tapers consistant and making the angle adustable is a good idea too, as I found out, broadhead manufacturers vary on what a 5 degree taper is.

There's a pic in a similar thread on the bowyers bench forum.
