any good elk hunting in around fort collins co

got a bud i worked with pouring iron in a foundry ,making castings for pipe fittings ,when the economy got bad he joined the army and now he his based at fort collins colorodo, as a certified welder, and a machinist his wife and 2 kids just left this week to move in on base.he came back for a month and i told him i will be coming up there next year and we are gonna try and chase some elk...is there a do it yourself hunt around there?shooting a 54#@28 morrison cheyenne..will be getting some 65# limbs from bob and start shooting around a 700 grain arrow..thanks for any info,what are the fee's there also.

The closest units are draw, and are getting harder and harder to get. If you don't mind driving a few hours you can get in to some great elk hunting though.
