... to try the "rule elimination" Terry put in last month regarding "price checks."

I'm considering selling my Martin Hunter but I have no idea what to even ask for it.  It's in good shape with only minor cosmetic marks (smudge where the Selway slide-on quiver sat on the limbs, a few tiny dings in the glass).  I'm really happy with my new Samick TD which I will be using to hunt and would like to try a long bow of some flavor.  To fund that purchase I'm thinking I'd sell the Hunter and/or trade to get a long bow.  Again, I have no idea what to even ask for it.  The serial number indicates it was made in 1997, if that helps to determine a value.  I'll try to get a few pics posted as well.

I just don't want to insult anyone by offering it up in trade or asking too much.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance on this and I hope I don't start a string of "price me" requests with this.

The flash really makes the marks on the limb tips stand out although I'm pretty sure they'll buff out, which I'll try to do should I decide to sell or trade the bow.

$250-$200

$250 is a starting point but don't turn down too many $200 offers with things are as they are right now.

It is an older bow that is not in perfect condition.  I would expect to pay $190-210.  You could probably get a little more for it but it might be harder to sell.  

My numbers are a little more conservative than others here but I recently purchased two brand new Martin Hunters for $265 and $280.  I think the only way to get into the higher end of the price ranges mentioned is if someone is really looking for that specific vintage of bow.  What poundage is it?  I bought a 65# that same year new, I think I only paid $150.  They are nice shooting bows and mine has served me well.

Sorry, the stats are in my signature.  55# @ 28".  Crazy that the new ones retail for nearly $500 and you snagged two for under $300.  I really like the bow but I'm looking for my first long bow and I seem to shoot the 50# recurve a bit better, so that's what I'll be hunting with.  If I can trade the Hunter for a 48-51# longbow, I'd be pretty stoked.  Not really looking for anything fancy, I just want to try the longbow to see if I like it vs the recurves.

So is it a Martin made Hunter or a Damon Howatt made Hunter? There is a difference, at least to some buyers and you want to be correct when you list it.

It's a Damon Howatt.  Here's the full mark on the bow.  

 

I'm waiting for a reply from Martin on what type of finish is on the bow.  If I can match it, I should be able to clean up the few small scuffs around the tips and on the limbs.  Typical "hunting scars", I call them.

Rusty, the white retail sticker on the bow limb looks like it reads "Martin Hunter", probably a Martin made howatt. Also under the DH sticker hunter is written in cursive while most of the old hunters had a capital letter sticker like "HUNTER"
Sales of Howatt Hunters ranged from $135 to $326 on the recent sales of the auction site; its really about condition and rarity. The high end sale of $326 was a superb vintage bow in looks and age. Most sold from 150-250 so you're in there somewhere. I think most likely it would sell for $150-200.

My son bought this exact model with the same stats for $275 brand new at Sportsman's Warehouse 2 years ago. It was marked down from $350 I think.
