CROW FEATHERS

I know people say crows never get hit by cars but as i was knapping an arrow head on my front porch i watched one get whacked right in front of me. It must have been in some ones corn squeezin leftovers. (Moon shine remains for those of you who i may have confused.)

Any way i took the wings of of it and was wondering if anyone has ever tried them as fletching before?

Waste not want not! Haven't tried them but if you can use a small fletch, they should do the trick. Got sauce for them wings?

In my 42 yrs I can only remember one I've seen dead on the side of the road..... Two Sundays ago,on my way to go bow fishing I hit 2 of the 4 that were in the road in front of me...too slow flying up...Both bounced off the top of the grill of my Tacoma....I still can't believe it!!

 No never used any for fletching....

Crows are pretty road wise, they feed on road kill but seldom fall victim themselves. I have heard goose feathers work good but i have never heard of crow, i have eaten crow before

I hit one with my Dads pick-up when I was 17, had my girlfriend with me(now my wife)!! I said can you believe it and she said yes, "What I don't believe is it landed in the back of the truck"!! Sure enough I pulled over and there it was stone dead!! Nope never tried the feathers for feathers!     Shawn

never tried crow feathers but I have made a little arrow out of spare feathers from my pet Cockatiel.

Natives up here would not use them, some kind of bad mojo,'cause I had to try them, they seem to work OK but are very fragile although they don't look like it.

I made a set of "sunday morning arrows" out of Hawk and Crow - some 15 or 20 years ago:
   
Both are very weak, the Crow little more then Hawk. The feathers will ?fray on impact almost every shot - no matter which target material you use. They fly okay, but more like a FluFlu.
BTW: The Hawk feathers were ?shed by my fathers bird - used to be a falconer all his life - and it had catched this Crow!

You dont see many hit because theres usually one up in a nearby tree hollering car car car!!!!

On a related topic....since owls are silent flyers if you could get owl feathers wouldn't that make some really quite arrows?!

Yeah owl feathers might make for some quiet arrows. They also would make quite a dent in yer wallet as they can fine you severely (here in the states)for just having the feathers let alone using them for fletching.
 I've tied on crow wing feathers before. They work but aren't real strong. They will do the job though.

I guess the one you seen form the porch getting hit was "cornfused."

With them being a little weak...four fletch would probably make up the difference.

I need to get some river cane, hopefully this weekend if my better half doesn't already have my weekend planned for me. I will do a few and post the pictures.  Wish me luck.
