450 + vs D10 bow string?
« on: June 14, 2011, 08:05:00 PM »
Any opinions on which is a better 64 inch longbow string to hunting with woodies?

I will likely go with 10 stands, bow is a 64 inch longwalker, about 53 pounds at my 30 inch draw.  Most of the shafts I shoot average around 570 - 575 grains.

40" draw? I figured that 64" bow would stack like a fork lift at about 36".   :dunno:

I have a 450+ on a longbow.
Nice string seems pretty quick and is for sure quiet.
String maker Oliver Stacy reccomends 450 for longbows.

Don't know anything about 450, but d10 will continue to creep a little when the temps are in the high 90s to low 100s. Not as much as d97, but it will still move a tad. That being said, I still use d10.

450+ is a great material! Been using it since it's inception.

Have a 10 strand on a Gary Davis, Black Locust bow, and My Boblee recurve from the early '90s!

Both bows, over 55lb at my draw length.

D-10, not tried, but have been using Astro Flight from Brownell, pretty much the mirror of it! Really like the A.F.

All I use on my longbows are 8-strand padded to 12 450+...love the stuff!

D-10 is popular also but I make more 450+ for longbows than any other string material put together.

Thanks,

Josh

OH! I didn't send in my new order yet did I?
See ya Friday.
Bob, I shot some 450 strings years ago but they musta been about 16-18 strand( I had no clue how to build a string then) I am gonna be after some 450+ SOON.

  So.... I gotta ask, being a D10 user, is 450 considered FF Material?  :archer:

I like the 450 on longbows as well.6-8 strands with padded loops.Alot of the longbows I have had had 450 on them.Oliver Stacy makes a good string.

Like Frank Bullitt said Astroflight is good stuff and it has worked excellant on a few longbows for me with an 8 strand.Frank Bullitt/Steve built a few for me and I was very pleased.

Some bows seem to like a certain strand count and material more than others in my experience. It always helps if the string is well made like the ones made by some of the gurus around here like Oliver Stacy,LBR,SBD etc.

I have a 10 strand D-10 on a recurve, it has been in the low to high 90's here for over two weeks and the D-10 is creeping, a good shooting string but I just don't like the creep. I'll twist up an Ultra-Cam replacement for it today and that will be the end of the that.

No reason to be sorry!  450+ is a FF material.

BCY 450+, D-97, D-10, 8125, 452x are a few.
Brownell TS+, Ultra Cam, Astro Flight.

Those are just a few.

B-50, B-500 and B-55 are Dacron.

Thanks,

Josh
