What can ya all tell me about big river bows. I bought one of Mr Mcdonalds creations at comptons. I beleive it is a copy of a 1967 super kodiak all phenolic riser with red accent stripe 1 of 25 I was told. Absolutely a beautiful bow and smokes an arrow. rh 55@28 and 62" long.

I just saw John today at the Coon Rapids, MN shoot. He makes a real solid bow at great prices. At 83 years old he has been building bows for many years.
I think I heard that he built bows for Whiffen Archery way back in the old days. Chad

Thanks Joe, I would like to say You new guys did a great job with comptons this year it apperared everyone was having alot of fun.
I would like to contact John and determine if ff is ok. The tips tell me yes but id like to hear it from him. The all phenolic riser makes this bow dead in the hand and shoots as hard as anything ive owned and shot.

DWT you done well. That bow is one of John`s best. Compare it to a similar bow and you will be impressed. I strolled over by Norm and started to get the shakes when I saw it. Good for me(and you) it was too heavy.
I think ff is ok, he uses it on most all of his bows. Better to call him though, that will be a treat in itself!

He has his own recurve design and also is making a widowlike one piece that I have. They are both really nice shooters.

I had a longbow John made a while ago. I picked it up to try while waiting for a custom from another bowyer. I sold it once the new bow came and have since had tons of regret from that sale. It was old school longbow. Looked like actionwood and black glass. Boy that bow could shoot! Fast, powerful and just an awesome bow. I hope to have a custom made for me before he stops making bows. I have shot a handful of his bows and all were very impressive.

Glad you bought it before I heard it was for sale
I have not shot one of his bows I didnt like. although, I have not shot his flat bow model yet. I would put his bows up against any others on the market today!
He makes incredible bows and is a great guy to boot. Personally, I have no interest in buying any other bows, than his. I've had this ailment for almost 2 years now.

I've got three of John's bows, a D (Hill style) and two R/D's. I have on occasion shot bows from other makers and really haven't found anything that shoots better than a Big River. John does a great job and you can't beat the lead time - my last one took 10 DAYS from order to completion.
