Grizzly broad heads rw or lw does it really matter

Does it really matter if I shoot right bevel or left bevel if I shoot left wing feathers?

If you shoot right bevel, you are going to lose energy with your broadhead having to reverse rotation...or so I'm told.

The original Grizzly's were LW and you need to shoot LW feathers. Now you can get RW so you will need RW feathers to match. The original ones (LW) have worked for me for along time I still have a few Harry give me years ago. As the old saying goes if it aint broke don't fix it, so I've never tried the RW ones.

The originals that were offered for sale were right wing, used them for years with right wing fletch, I preferred left wing so I went to Hill left wings.  Shot a few deer with the right wing head and left wing fletch, those that I make arrows for all shot them mixed, left wing wing arrows to right wing Grizzlys, never had a problem on deer for arrow flight, blood trails or penetration either way. I have even shot a number of deer with them sharpened with a file and serrated like Hill preferred, they get a mean edge with that method.  One of my buddies cannot get them sharp any other way, so he uses the best edge he can get and he gets great results so he won't change, come to think about it he always wants right wing broadheads with 5.5" left wing fletched cedar arrows.

You will get optimun perfermance matching your bevel to feathers left bevel-left wing fletch and right bevel right wing fletch . Mixing them up you will be spinning the arrow one way with your fletch at the same time trying to spin it the other way with your broadhead , confuses your arrow , and I need all the help I can get , Fred

From experience, I can say that on deer they will still will work but not 100%! You'll lose energery with miss matched bevel and fletch!  Been there done that! Let's say you have left wing fletch and right bevel broadhead, your arrow leaves the bow spinning in one direction hits your deer/or target then has to reverse direction, thus energy lost! With everything matched, arrow leaves the string spinning one direction hits deer /target and continues spinning the same direction through deer/target or what ever your hunting! Hope this helps!
I would sugest that if you can't match up bevel with fletch direction use a bouble bevel head< with that said, most single bevel heads come in both right bevel and left bevel!
Have fun, shoot straight, and hunt like your hungry!

I've got both left bevel and right bevel heads.  Finally figured out how to put a scary edge on them with a file.  The right bevels sharpen up easier.  I have not taken a file to the left bevel heads yet.  Thanks for the feedback.

Friends and I have shot the original RW bevel Grizzly 160 grain with left wing fletch for over 20 years and never had a problem on elk, deer, bear or whatever. I suspect that many have had the same result.  Now with some publicity to the contrary everyone is worried and imagines problems.  I'll continue to use what has worked for many years.  If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Sounds like your all set, just got to get those left bevel heads scary sharp now!!!  You can do a quick test since you have both left and right! shoot into a new foam target with each and compair differences of penitration! I got with my tests a diference of 1.5" to 2", mismatched always less!!  Now if I had deer like the one in your avatar to hunt I would want 100% from my arrow/broadhead combo! ( i try to get 100% anyway as We owe it to the game we hunt)
There are some real good posts on how to sharpen left bevel heads with a file, just do a search!

Well, not trying to start anything here, but why use a single bevel at all?

My experience with narrower broadhead designs like Hills that single bevels has given me a much keener edge easier when sharpening with a file than standard bevels of the same dimensions using a file.  Still, if in doubt, I recommend Zwickey broadheads they sharpen with a file or any other method real nice. I started out matching fletch with the Grizzlies when they first came out and sharpening them exactly how the slip on the package said, that worked great.  Back then no one was talking about matching fletch, I did it because I was afraid they would not fly straight, later I found that for accuracy, it did not matter, so I went either way and found that for deer I did not see any difference.  All that said, the science says that matching is better, so if you have a choice match them, but I would not go nuts over it.  My wife killed a bunch of deer with a 38# @ 26" bow and never had a penetration problem doing it wrong, about as well as her Zwickey Eskimos, she always managed to get the arrow through the deer, except for one that stuck in the far shoulder joint, but the entire arrow was inside of the deers body. This year she will be shooting matched, just because they are available.

That's a good question, but I'll guess that it's just another choice in the many designs out there,  that work!!! I no longer use the single bevels for no reason other than I'm a broadheadacholic! I now carry in my quivers one of each of the following, 1 bear 4blade greenie(from the 70s) 1 wenselwoodsmen and and old magnus journeymen 2 blade, they all fly like darts, are scary sharp and each one has taken more than one deer! It's the same in both my recurve and longbow quivers!  I can't say that the single bevel design is any better or worst!
