Brace Height for 60" R/D??
« on: June 27, 2011, 04:00:00 PM »
I recently purchased this Hollenbeck but getting a string for it has been somewhat troublesome. I have no idea what Roger suggested for brace height on these bows. The previous owner had a B50 on it with a bh of 7.5" which I suspect is a bit low considering the throat of the grip is so deep.

I had a D97 made for it at 57" and the lowest I can twist it gives me a BH of 8" which actually looks and sounds better but I'm nervous as the previous owner was using 7.5"

As for my question - for those of you R/D hybrid shooters with a 60" bow - what bh does your bow prefer? Do you think I'll be okay at 8 or higher?

Most of the R/D bows I've had are happiest right around 7".  I'd contact the bowyer and ask them.

I would if I could. He doesn't make bows anymore. I don't know anything about him. I'm trying to get any info on him I can.

Only had a couple, but they were around 7-7 1/4.

I'm guessing the throat being so pronounced is making the braceheight higher on the T-square than it actually is.

I have run them from about 6.5" to about 8 on the high side.  Right now my MOAB runs 6 3/4" give or take.  Other bows were recommended up to about 7 1/2".  I can't recall one I have had with a recommended height much over 7.5", but I do know people run some R/D’s as high as 8”.  That bow looks to have a fairly long fade to fade length compared to some 60” bows I have had.  Hard to say for sure. I would tend to think 7” give or take for a start point without knowing for sure from the boyer.

I would change the post title or make a new one to reflect the specific bow.  It may get you a better response.  Some members skip over the general stuff not of interest to them.  If they see a specific bow they know is not made any more, they may jump in to help out.    :dunno:

Craig Ekin at Howard Hill recommends starting at 6.5 with his Badger R/D.  Go from there.  Should work on your bow as well.

My 60" d/r's like 6.75 to 7 inches.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I'd say the answer is prolly somewhere between 7" and 7 1/2". Once had a 62" Hollenbeck that liked around 7 1/4".
Send that pretty little bow down to Georgia, and let me shoot it a while. With the temps ranging in the high 90s, when I send it back to ya, that string will have elongated at tad.  :D
