Check What I Got From Work Today,
« on: June 29, 2007, 04:12:00 PM »
Ive got my self a new job making Pies in the morning and as a Butcher in the afternoon. Iv been doing this for a week now while working as a waiter in the evening in a local Resterant, earning money for University,

Any way i noticed that there was a Roe Deer up on some meat Hooks, ( unfortunatly its head had all-ready been cut off) so any way i asked if i could skin it and keep the skin,
( wanted to do it as i did not want any one messing it up with a knife,))
Any way one of the Butchers said he would do it for me now show me how to skin it,

Seeing the opertunity, for a perfect skin, (The Deer has been shot in the upperneck/head)
And as he was reaching for a knife,

I asked the Guy if he would skin it with out a knife, so he kind of cringed and looked at me with a bit of a funny look, but said ok, any way he did an ace job, but allmost had a hart attack doing it , ( the guys about 100 year old)

Any way i said ill give him a £5 for each skin he keeps for me in the furture,as he just throws them in the bin, as long has he doseent use a knife, so fingers crossed i should get a few more, and hes happy getting a little extra money for a the pub after work.

any way here it is , its only small, as we only really have Roe deer where i live,

From what i have read from The Brain Tanning Book seems to be exactly what they use,

Im Chuffed as i have waited years to get my hands on a skin, As there not easy to come accross in the UK,

SO any way, i want to tan it, but i dont want a mess it up braintanning it, it means to much to me to experiment on, so i an thinking i will try and get some chemical kit or some thing to make it really simple, and hope fully will not bodge it,
So just wanted to ask if any one can recommend any thing, or any advice, ive roled it up and put it in the freezer for now,

James

No, you are not allowed to hunt in the UK, unfortunatly, but to be honest there is nothing to hunt, except Rabbits,

But im going to Finland next month for a Year and im going to be out hunting with my bow every second,

You sould leave your bow at home and just enjoy the Fish and Chips, pub in everuy village and the Rugby

The K-Tan is the simplest & quickest to use. It gives really good results (from my own experience)

dont let it get freezer burned. roll it up and wrap it in news paper. Try to start the tanning fast as you can
Good luck
