Opinion: Day 1 pants cotton or bucksuede
« on: July 12, 2011, 10:09:00 PM »
I have finally worn out my original cotton camo hunting pants and want to buy a good pair of replacements.  I have lots of Day One ASAT in wool and fleece but never a simple basic pant.  I spoke to Gary and he was very gracious and helpful.  Does anyone who has a pair, give me you opinion of one material vs the other.  I am looking for a material that is quiet, soft and comfortable but this time I do not want fleece.

Thanks Steve

Buckeseude....had mine from day one three years now in ASAT. Very comfortable and quiet. Just make sure you add a few inches to your waist. My only gripe about Day One, not enough room in the waist area to layer. I always order 2" larger....

The Bucksuede is a synthetic fabric that used to be called saddlecloth-it is quiet but IMHO it gets stiff in cold weather and tears easily. Also, it doesn't breathe very well. The only drawback with cotton is that when it gets wet, it stays wet. Otherwise, it is comfortable, breathes well and breaks in for a butter soft and quiet pair of pants. Cotton can also be repaired if it tears, while with bucksuede, you have to use duct tape!

Steve-  I bought a bunch of Day One last year.  No sizing problems for me.  I have a parka and pants that are bucksuede.  Takes a couple of washings to soften.  Otherwise ditto what huntryx said.  Avoid nasty prickers if possible.  But I wear it a bunch during the early season.  If you change your mind on fleece, the light fleece is also an option, but I think the bucksuede is a little more versatile for pants.

Down here in deep Southeast Texas we typically wear a loincloth and skeeter dope in Oct and Nov.  I would send a pic but this is a family site...

Hunting in Pensilvania for WTs on a stand maybe the bucksuede works better. If you are on the move on warm weather a pair of cottons are perfect since they are made soft.
