i just used wd40 and it worked great

I used the spray Goo-Be-Gone on my Black Widow and it worked just fine for me.  After that, I washed it with hand soap and water to get rid of the oily residue.
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

I've used googone and wd40. Both worked fine. I used in moderation.

Like many people, I use Goo Gone.  As SCATTERSHOT mentioned, it will leave a oily residue.  I then wipe that off with Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol.  I've never had a problem with this method.
