super kodiak
« on: July 21, 2011, 09:12:00 PM »
I have a super kodiak bow that measures 58" strung and it measures 56"3/4 unstrung.  Are these correct measurements for normal super kodiaks? It also has a gold Fred Bear face on the coin, not the normal bear.  It does say super kodiak on the upper limb, and it says sk-896  amo 60" 55# on the handle. The bow is black and brown diamond wood.  Thank you   :archer:    5

Hello 5deer.  I don't know about older Bear Super Kodiaks, but mine is also marked 60" and that makes it a 60 inch bow for all discussion.  The measured length strung is kinda irrelevant.  In my opinion, you will want a 56" string and about a 7 3/4" brace height (distance from strung string to the back [side of the bow facing you as you shoot] of the riser at the shelf).

As for the coin, sk-number and colors, you will have to hope a Bear collector responds.

Enjoy your bow!

Those are the normal measurements. A pic showing the riser and medallion would be helpful.

My first hunting bow was a 60" Bear Super Kodiak (unstrung) and if I recall, the length of it strung was 57".

5deer,

I believe you have your measurements turned around in your post as it will be less length strung. The AMO is measured around the curvature of the limbs so it is going to be more than the bow length unstrung and especially strung.

Regards,

Jack

5deer,

Sorry, my mistake. Just that I have never seen a bow that becomes longer when strung though.
