arrow flight ???
« on: July 23, 2011, 06:39:00 PM »
I have a question. I have a bow I can not get good arrow flight out of unless I turn the cock feather in. If the cock feather is out the arrow kicks up and to the left (iam right handed).Does the same if I shoot aluminum, cedar or carbon and I have shot 3 different point weights out of the carbons.Shoots great with the feather in and I do not have a problem shooting this way. Just was wondering if any one else ever had this happen and why? Oh 1 more thing I have adjusted the nocking point up and down.

Though turning the nock a little might give you a bit better feather clearance, it sounds as if your nock point is a little low. Low/inside hen feather is catching on the shelf as it passes causing the arrow to kick.

Try this... peel back the rest and stick a paper match under it about 3/8" from the rear of the shelf..or directly over the throat of the grip.. then reseat the rest and shoot... could help, might not..

A while back I had a problem with arrows kicking high and left.  I remembered an article in an old issue of TBM about setting up to shoot a Damon Howatt Hunter off the shelf.  As was mentioned by Javi, a small paper match or sliver of leather was placed under the rug rest and side plate just above the grip.  The real trick that helped was to leave about 3/8" space between  the rug rest and the shelf plate for the feather spine to pass .  It worked great.  I have used this on several different bows with success.Hope this helps.

I seem to get better arrow flight with the cock feather up,this lets the other two hen feathers split the shelf.
