arror weight ?
« on: July 28, 2011, 03:37:00 PM »
hey guys ive been shooting a set of old bear woodies from the 80's. they were marked
for 50/60# bows had vanes on them
i stripped the vanes put a wrap on them with 3 4in. feathers. i took the 125 field points off put some old light green 125 razor heads on.
they fly nice and to point. i was weighing my gt xp hunters that i just put weight tubes in they came out to 695 thought ill weigh the woodies and they only weigh 417ish. with field or broadhead. my bow i pull to 55# so thats only like 8.3ish gpp am i hurting my reverse handle? or grip forward [the limbs are on the inside of grip] northwind gem longbow
the bow is around 5or6 years old
let me know what you think

Kind of a fine line. It would probably shoot best (IMHO)with more energy imparted to the heavier arrow.  Ask the maker what he would recommend.

On my bows I have come to like 12gpp.

Are you sure you have the woodies weight measured correctly?  Without the point, they would weigh about 290 grains.  Subtract 25 grains for feathers nock and finish and that's about 265 grains.  I've never had 11/32 cedar that weighed so little, though it's possible with 5/16 shafts.   Most bare shaft 11/32s should come in from 350 to 400 grains for a 28-inch BOP length. I'm thinking you lost about 100 grains per shaft somewhere. 500 grains, plus or minus a little was and is a very common weight for an 11/32 , 28-inch arrow.
