Arrow suggestions needed
« on: July 31, 2011, 12:52:00 PM »
My setup PSA X spalted maple 70@28.  My problem is I have not been able to find a stiff enough arrow.   What i have done so far:
Started with a 75/95 cut as short as I could get it with broadhead clearance   With 300gr head.
Built out the side plate.
Will not change point weight (Want to shoot Big Jim 300) however I did try a 200 250 and 300 and it was still super weak.

My Problem arrow is super weak when bareshafting and visible arrow kick left mid flight fletched.

I called Black Widow and ordered an arrow tuning kit.  This enables you to add wieght to the rear of the arrow.  It also enabled me to cut the arrow off a little more.  I have weighted the back of the arrow up to 120gr and it is still weak and do not want to go up anymore.

Has anyone tried the gold tip kinetic xt 200 it is a 200 spine shaft.   Or do you guys have any other arrow suggestions.  Next option would be send it back and have poundage reduced which I really dont want to do.  Thanks in advance Will

Arrows I've tried thus far are Trad Only 300 CE 350 and GT 75/95
2 morrison mini ilf's skinned
2 shawnees skinned
2 PCH X honduran rosewood
Tiger mytrle and brazilian rosewood

How long are your arrows. 75/95 are 340 spine not. Go to  a 300 spine and don't build out the side plate. Widows are very spine tolerant.

There is also the Dangerous Game 250 FMJ.  You can also foot the shafting with Alum. arrows. According to what I have read on TG that will stiffen the shafts you want to use be quite a bit depending on how far you foot them.Three inches of footing will remove the same amount of arrow from the spining equation.

Yeah I didn't like the rest build out already taken it off . As I stated I have already tried 300 spine trad only arrows still very weak.  Arrows are 29.25 bop gold tip site also states 75/95 traditional  to be .300 spine.  Probably should have stated traditional GT.

The FML 250's are the stiffest arrows for sale that I know of.

Longbow338 - I'd be looking at the 0.200" spine class arrows. So the Gold Tip Big Game Kinetics @0.200" spine would be a good choice, also Carbon Tech Safaris are 0.200" shafts. It all depends on what F.O.C. and overall weight you'd like to be at... The Gold Tip Kinetics are 11.6grains per inch and the Carbon Tech Safaris are 15.5grains per inch. Either one of those shafts with a 50grain insert & your 300grain Big Jims @29.25" with standard fletching will be pretty close. The assumption was you were pulling 28" draw. The key here is to get somewhere in this 0.200" spine deflection, unless you want to "foot" the front end as already suggested. Footing will take a little more tweaking to get it dialed in... I'm not aware of the full 0.200" spine class offerings from other manufactuers. Happy to help if I can...

The Carbon Tech Safari @ ~29.75" should get you close.
