I'm definately a one-piece fan myself, but check out the socket type systems that Big Jim and Black Widow use. Hard to see the joint, and if you didn't know it you would think you were shooting a one-piece. The bow-bolt that Shrew and others use might be an option too?

though i've tried other types of 2pc t/d systems, the following are the ones i prefer, and why.

my personal 2pc t/d system fave is the connexion hinge, as it works very well and positive in all environments, and also evenly divides the bow into two equal pieces for the shortest of break down pack length.  it's also a relatively easy retrofit to an existing one piece bow ...

next fave for me is the glass sleeve as used by nate steele (bamabows) and others, but the pieces are of unequal length and make for a few inches longer packing length.  this is bar far the best sleeve type t/d system that works well in all environments.  this can't be retrofitted ...

i've had a number of bows with the bow bolt, and while it's a fine, positive locking system, i've had a few environment issues with getting it to lock and unlock.  i've heard it can be retrofitted to an existing one piece, but that's not an easy route to go ...

Last week I went to the ETAR I flew 24 one piece bows in an aluminum box, cost was $30 each way no problems . That was my 20th trip flying comercial airlines with one piece bows and it has worked fine.

the difference for me is that ALL my gear goes into ONE checked-in wheeled duffle type coleman bag, and not having to lug a separate bow tube, and incur an added expense.

Larry,

I'm sure Dean wouldn't mind if you took a chain saw to your Firestyx, and used a strong, barely-noticeable hinge to convert it to a takedown!            :scared:

Hope you have a great hunt!

Just doesn't seem right somehow to have a longbow divided. A recurve you have a riser that limbs bolt onto...but a longbow...? In two pieces? I don't know...

Larry, perhaps your best bet is to leave your one piece bows alone and take your maroon Dale Dye take-down (smile).

i like the looks of a smooth, 1pc longbow.  a 2pc retains that look AND feel.  a 3pc is just another recurve, imho.

if you took a buncha longbows with either a 2pc sleeve, bow bolt, or overlay hidden connexion, and used a roll down rubber grip on all three to hide the view that they're 2pc, they would all feel and shoot like any other 1pc.

Did some shooting at the range this morning shot the 3pc pronghorn and the 2pc griffin with a stepp take down thingy.  I am pulling out my luggage to see if the griffin has a chance of fitting.  I know the 3 pc will fit.

Daryl and Bob great to see you!  I wouldn't chop my firestyk, I've got an email into Jamie for suggestions.  I was wondering how you are doing Bob and I do get the Dale Dyes out often to shoot.  I don't think I have any hunting limbs to plug into the Dye but I'll double check.  I've been taking my Robertson Stykbow on the last few hunts, a 3pc recurve but am looking to hunt with a more streamline bow in AK.

I appreciate all the comments guys, it's nice to share and know how you all handle a pack-bow.  There's also the option to tote a back up bow.  As of now I am considering not bringing a back up.  But if I bring the Pronghorn I could bring some back up limbs.

Good to hear from you, too, Larry!  Good luck hunting on the Moose John. I sold all my bows and just today bought a Liberty Edge. But I fondly remember the Dale Dyes. Let us know how the trip turns out, please.

I like hearing Rob's observations, and he has had considerable experience in this area. I personally have a great fondness for bows with BowBolts, but then I have never had anything but good experiences with mine. No doubt the connection hinge and the sleeve work very well and are good alternatives.
