Tuning my arrows, I'm lost now...

Well, I thought I had my arrows all tuned nice for my Hill. 30.75" 2117's with 200 gr. points. Seemed to fly fine to me. Bareshafted good as well. Then I got the awesome idea to try slapping some broadheads on and man, WATCH OUT! All of a sudden, I can't even hit my target. They fly waaaay right, (Tail left, means weak right?). What I think is even funnier is that I'm using woodsmans. I thought if anything, a two blade would windplane or something this bad. But a three blade should relatively like a field point right?

Is there something obvious here wrong with my setup? I don't here the arrows hitting my shelf or riser indicating a false weak.

All I can come up with is terrible form that only shows up with broadheads?

Do you have a double nock on the string? It helps me temendously as I think my release is an issue. With double string nocking points above and below the arrow nock it helps me quite noticeably.

Yes I do. But how much space do you leave between the bottom nock and the arrow nock? I may have too much space there. Roughly 1/16".

Did you put feathers on the shaft before shooting the BH's?
You may have been borderline weak, the BH makes the arrow longer and  weaker.

No. I just took the fieldy off the bareshaft and put a bhead on.

If I put the Broadhead on a fletched shaft it flies fine. Should I be worried if it doesn't bareshaft worth a crap? Or am I overthinking again...

You should never attempt to bareshaft with a BH.. it is like putting the fletching in front... it will steer the arrow

I second that.Never shoot a broadhead except fletched.You are overthinking.I think you are tuned and ready to sharpen some broadheads.

Yep... put the feathers on and I think your good to go...  Never bareshaft BH's.

Never bareshaft with broadheads its very dangerous. I know first hand, you should see the hole in my downspout LOL. If your tuned with fp's you should be good to go with bh's you just need to practice with them. Come hunting season I only shoot bh's.

Those arrows at 30.75"bop were too weak and it showed with the broadheads. But fletching will mask such problems. So they will fly ok fletched. If it were me I'd cut them down to around 30", fletch them and be good.

Alrighty, thanks guys! I shoot on the edge of an alfalfa field so I don't hit the house but I can see where that would be dangerous.

Snag, I think I'm gonna try that and then as the others have mentioned, I'll start sharpening.

Yeah, never shoot a broadhead on a bare shaft.  That is a pointless exercise. Tuning with a broadhead means seeing how the broadheads (on a fletched shaft), hit in comparison to your field points (also on fletched shafts).  That's the only way I tune.  I don't fool around with bareshafting.

BH planning is how I do it... shoot BH into pie plate, mark hole pull arrow repeat 5 to 6 shots to establish a pattern, then shoot field points with the same procedure... if the BH hit right of the FP then cut a 1/4" off the shaft and repeat... until all shafts group together.. For hunting arrows bare shaft tuning is just not good enough for me..

Anyone trying to bareshaft tune should read and understand the bareshaft planing method before ever starting. It would save vast amounts of time, frustration and questions. And be safer.
