Bear Grizzly what year ?
« on: August 14, 2011, 06:31:00 PM »
I picked this bow up at the swap meet today it's AMO 56" #48 recurve one piece the limbs are as straight as can be. I looked up bear bow history and it looks to be around a 60's I can't tell if the bear medallion is aluminum or silver nickel and also it has a laminated riser are they common in the earlier models ? ser #KR37974

1970  The 68-1970 Grizzlies were the only years for the 56" AMO. The 68 and 69 models were a single wood riser while the 1970 was dual. Also, the 68 and 69 serial number would start with an 8 or a 9 depending on which year it was manufactured.

Thanks Jack    Do you have any idea what it's worth ? I paid $15.00 for it, I  thought that was a pretty good price the guy wanted $20.00 but I said it didn't have a string so I offered him $15.00.  Most of the older bears I find the limbs are usually twisted.

Larry, I would say you did very well on the Grizzly. If it is in nice shape it could be worth ten times what you paid for it. I have owned a number of the 56" Grizzlies and like the way they feel and shoot.

Larry, I picked up a Grizzly like yours in an auction last winter and sold it on that big nasty auction site for 15 times what you paid for yours. It was like new and 65#, but that much weight is almost a detriment any more. For myself, I wouldn't choose a bow that short, but a lot of good archers might disagree with me on that.

You got a nice bow in a real desirable weight.

Thanks for all the info. I think I  mite get it refinished and shoot it, and then put it on the wall.   :bigsmyl:
