Ground blind advice
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:46:00 AM »
Looking for mobile light ground blind.  Won a double bull at nwtf meeting great with kids but really bulky and I feel like I'm watching a hunting show on tv rather than actually hunting myself. Tried a piece of camo fabric and some elastic cord turkey hunting this spring worked great but ripped in half on some briars and not quite enough concealment for bow hunting.  Considering apache pyramid blind.  Looked at that mirror blind but I looks bulky.  Any suggestions?

Never used one but a gille (spelling) might work for you.

Buy this:

 http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=145774

Universal Tree Stand Skirt.

For under $20 it actually comes with two skirts 40" X 164" each.

Set up takes 2o seconds.

Just find a good spot and tie to one small tree, and then the other. Then tie the other skirt. Creates an instant blind and the material holds up forever.

In the early season when it's still warm, if you can FIND a 3/4 length "light in weight" gillie suit is one of the best "blinds" you can have.

I have a 3/4 length gillie suit, but it's too heavy for early season use. Makes me sweat like a pig. Great for November's cold.

I like idea of ghuilli(?) but looks difficult to get in and out of woods.  Even if you carry it in.  Saw a sniper show on tv and they were pushing through some nasty terrain in them.  Do you carry them or wear the 3/4 one in?  Will look up that tree skirt also sounds like good idea.

I used a bunch of deadfall from a pine stand I'm hunting.

From the ground up inside the blinds, one log cabin style, one tipi style, I have burlap hanging to conceal the lower parts of me. I bent nearby saplings to help cover the rest of it.

The log cabin stack needs a little more cover.

A strong storm blew through a few years ago so I have plenty of deadfall.

Again never used one but: Bush In A Bag  sounds like it would be easy to carry.

Great looking natural blind. That's definitely way to go.  I hunt alot of public land and like to not let folks know where I'm hunting but for my private spots I need to build some of those  I like idea of using pit blind and sit on edge of hole.  Havent gotten around to it yet.  Another spot I've been meaning to check out is a root bulb of a large blown over tree.  Would be nice to have  a series of those natural blinds you could still hint between.  Looking for something that comes in and out Of hills with me.

Just don't do what my high school buddy did (55 years ago) and build it out of poison sumac. Any idea how that can spoil plans for a hunt?
