HELP - ELK
« on: August 22, 2011, 10:21:00 AM »
Fellow Tradganger's -

My hunting buds and I are looking for a drop elk hunt next fall (2012).  Just wondering who has a good outfit that they have personally hunted with in a drop situation and would recommend without reservation.  Had to leave an old outfit as he sold his operation and have struck out with my last two attempts to find a new home.  I have done this numerous times so I know what to expect.  I just want to know of an HONEST, hard working, and reliable outfitter who "does what he/she says he/she will do".  Colorado, Montana, or New Mexico.......

Much appreciated,
PaLongshank

Hi Kent,  How's that tent working out for you?

If you have the same bunch of guys every year you might consider making up your own camp.  We did that about 10 years ago - everyone threw money into the fund and we bought our own 16x32ft. tent and add to the camp every year.

If you do want to go the drop camp route the only guy I ever did it with was Troy Ginn back in '95.  Troy had an outfit in the Bitteroots in Idaho back then and was really good.  Knowing him, I suspect he is as detail oriented now as he was then.  I just googled his name and see he has contacts worldwide now.  I'd give him a call and see what he can recommend.   http://www.trophyhunt.com/index.php/

Depends on where your wanting to hunt.  Either Colorado you can try Circle "K" ranch and they offer a good drop camp.  In Montana Big Bear Outfitters there, Alan puts up a great drop camp and regular camp.  He can be reached at: 406-369-0410.  Tell him Dave sent you from Wisconsin.  He is a great guy and offers an awesome camp.
Thanks
Dave
