Well, loud is kind of hard to describe in print, but recurves will never be totally silent. The string slaps the limb with each shot. You can make them pretty quiet. As you raise the brace height, listen for the twang of the string to lessen. Do this without string silencers, yet. Once you get it as quiet as it will go (you will reach a point where raising the brace height won't make a difference to the sound), you can add your choice of string silencers. Yarn puffs work well. I use cat whiskers due to the amount of burrs where I hunt. Bow Hush (a wool yarn product that you wrap around the nock ends of the string) works well on recurves. You can use moleskin under the limb tips where the string makes contact. Bow Hush probably works a bit better, moleskin is cheaper.
I have an old Bear Black Bear that is pretty quiet as recurves go. Longbows are almost always quieter due to the lack of string contact with the bow. Your bow will need a Dacron (B50) string. I usually try to stay with the skinniest string I can, but B50 is not as strong as the newer no stretch material, so I use a 10 strand on my 45# Bear. Heavy strings are harder to silence. What weight is your bow?
I think a 60" string would be way too short, even for a Bear.
