The joy of selfbows
« on: August 29, 2011, 05:03:00 PM »
For my 1000 post I wanted to tell you guys/gals about my new bow . Its a 58in. 51 lbs @ 28in. Ed Scott Owl Bow sinew and rawhide backed with copperhead skins and man its a shooter . I have never shot a selfbow untill now and it has resparked my traditional fire . To my suprise right away I was shooting great groups with this bow and to me seems alot easier / smoother to draw compared to my glass bows at the same weight although it is slower , it darn sure is more quiet than glass . I think Im hooked and may even sell my PSAX and buy another . It sure has brought the joy of just shooting back to me . If you havnt given a selfbow a try I think your missing out on something special or at least it was that way for me . Anyone looking for a nice PSAX    :bigsmyl:

Brittman,
Wait until you draw the string on a bow you cut, scraped and filed out of a piece of wood yourself. I have just done that and man it is just a pure feeling accomplishment. It may not look as good as Mr. Scott's bows but it flings an arrow. But you should really post a pic for the rest of us to see your new bow.
Happy shooting,
Kelly

I would love to see pics too.

Just for the integrity of the terms, your natural materials bow is a backed bow, not a self bow. Self bows are all one material from belly to back.

Backed bows can be backed with sinew, rawhide, cotton, silk, bamboo, hickory and lots of other materials.

Mine has just snake skin on it, and I still consider it a selfbow.
