Bareshaft tuning MFX's
«

I am getting ready to bareshaft tune a doz MFX's with the hit insert. Has anyone found a way to hold the insert in without glue while tuning?
The insert comes 75 grains but you can break off the end for a 50 grain insert.
Also I plan of shooting 170 grain VPA's and does the long broadhead change the spine being so much longer that a field tip?
I draw to 30 inches and I dont have anything to cut off so I have to add or take away weight.
Just in case he is my set up 46# ACS and a 48# Shrew Classic Hunter. Again pull to 30" shooting three under.

Glue your insert in and do your trimming on the knock end.
Thanks,

I use low temp hot melt to glue my inserts in.. but you can also use a plastic grocery sack over the end of the arrow and push the insert in so the sack is around it.. then trim
Or wrap a single layer of teflon tape around the insert and shove it in..

You can wrap scotch tape or plumbers tape or just a piece of plastic around the inserts. If you are shooting into a soft target like a bag that will hold long enough for bare shaft testing.

A piece of 2 or 4 bound monofiliment works also.

Dont be surprised if it tunes a little stiffer than the spine would suggest. The HIT insert stiffens the front end because is is so long and sits further up the end of the shaft. I need a .500 spine MFX shaft when I usually use a .400 spine in the regular 5/16 diameter shaft..in the same bows.

I used the plastic bag trick to tune my arrows to lenght. I use .500 spine with 100 grain inserts and 145 grain tips out of my 55lb. longbow and recurves. The arrows are stiffer by nature being such a small diameter, so what Norb says holds true IMO also.

I use the saran wrap method for tuning all my carbons including Axis/MFX.Been doing it this way for years.I get my tuning done without gluing the inserts in.You need a softer target that doesn't grab too tight on arrow removal.

I use the clear/white glue gun sticks to tune my arrows..Heat a bolt up and pull them out when it is time to trim them. Then go to the 2 part epoxy when finished.

A friend of mine uses red loc tite thread lock. He can change them out easier than with glue. If you use the 2 part epoxy that comes with them you will never get it out.LCH
