Western IN, Eastern IL - free dog blood tracking service
« on: August 31, 2011, 09:44:00 PM »
Brought back to the top and updated for 2012 - We're still tracking!

Once again we will be taking calls for leashed dog blood tracking with our dachshund Oskar.  We don't charge anything for this, just enjoy tracking, want to get on more blood trails, and help folks recover deer.  This is Oskar's fourth season and he found 25 deer in his first 3 years.  We will travel 1hr from the Brazil/Cloverdale/Greencastle Indiana area and can track in Indiana or Illinois (and a bit farther for a good track - call - the worst that can happen is I might not be able to take the call).  Tracking at night is allowed in both states - hunter cannot carry a weapon on the track.

The best bet is to call me if you doubt your shot placement - I don't mind "easy" tracks - but if you and 6 buddies spend 4 hours messing up the track it makes it exponentially harder for the dog to get past the point of loss.

My tracking cell # is 812-241-2802 - call 24/7 - leave a message if I don't answer and I'll get back to you quickly.

Weather and time, within reason, do not matter to the dog.  The hardest tracks for people (gutshots) are the easiest for the dog.

Keep in mind that I work a full time job and hunt hard too, but I do my level best to take every reasonable call.

Hoping to do some tracks for IN/IL TradGangers this year!  Be warned, if you see me at Kalamazoo in January and tell me about a deer you lost and didn't call me for this or that reason I'll kick you in the shins!

Ryan

Ryan, that is a very generous offer!  If needed we'll definitely give you a call. We love you brother, but I sure hope I don't have to call you! I'd much prefer a short and heavy blood trail.

Hope Katia is doing well.

Terry, you guys hit one, give me a call.  How's Katia doing?  Well, you know, she says "Froggy" and I jumps - and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's the boss with Oskar and a couple of happy hunters.  They spent several hours looking then called us at midnight.  Had the doe by 1 am.  They would have probably found it the next day, but with the temps in the 70's that night it wouldn't have been fit to eat.

We had to pull Oskar off of the deer for pics, you can tell he wants back at it.  He actually got sick and was out of commission for a week after this track because he overdid it in the heat and dust.

Ryan, I picked up one of your tracking buisness cards up off of the bulletin board at Gander Mountain...last year or the year before...can't really remember. I keep it in my wallet and your number programed into my cell phone. I haven't had to call you yet, but I can promise that I will if need be. I have a couple ofypung hunters now, 12 & 10 years old, both with well placed shot on deer under their belts. I know that at sometime, we will all have that shot that makes us uneasy. Thank you for helping ease that.

Ryan, that is very cool.  I have a jack russell that i have been training to track wounded deer.  It needs to cool off here also so i can lay down some tracks for the dog.

Bill - if you want to see the dog work and shoot a deer that goes out of view (not a REAL short track) give me a call - I can bring him out - he doesn't get mad at me if the tracks are a bit easy....and I like to get him onto as many deer as I can.

We haven't had many calls yet this year - early October is always slow and the hot weather probably slowed it down some more - 2 calls were taken and 1 deer recovered, the other was confirmed non-lethal in my opinion after spending a couple hours with the dog.  The one we found was a low, poor paunch hit and the doe would not have been found without the dog.  The coyotes got one rear quarter, but the hunter got the rest and he was VERY happy!

This was Oskar's 20th deer recovery, he turned 2 yrs old last July, so he's not doing too bad!
