Guys who here leaves a hang on treestand on their "spot" on public access areas? Or do yall strictly use climbers?

I did a bunch of years ago on an 8000 acre WMA. Never saw anyone else around and wasn't worried about it. Nowadays i worry about leaving them on private land. Things change.

I would never leave anything on public land. I use hang ons when needed on public but will just hang them for a single set. I typically use my climber for everything else. Whatever it takes to be in the right spot though, ground included.

I have used both on WMAs. I usually hunt so far away from access roads that I doubt my stands are ever seen but I do not leave them up year round. The regs in GA say they have to be removed within I rhink 48 hours of the end of a managed hunt.

Never had a stand stolen but a few years ago I hunted a good looking spot on Dawson Forest that was not so far from the road because it was easy to get in a few hours hunting in the afternoon. I had placed my treelounge on a tree and when I left I secured it with a cable lock. The next afternoon when I return some low life had obviously found my stand and since I had locked it they stole everything that they could, the large knobs, the safety harness, my limb saw, head pillow, steep angle pad and bowhunting adapter. Then just to teach me a final lesson for preventing them from stealing the entire stand they took a knife to the sling seat and and straps cutting everything in half.

Cost me almost as much as buying a new stand to replace all the parts. Now if I am going to leave a climber in the woods I take one of my cheaper climbers that I pick up on Craigslist during the spring and summer for a song.

I leave mine up during season. Get some good locks and take bottom few steps if possible.

I have only had one stand stolen on public land and I forgot to put a lock on that one. I've had three stolen on private land. 4 in 20yrs. aint bad.

Thought about making up some small signs that say "smile your on camera".

We live in a sick world with people that have no respect for others property.  Sorry, just wish that the true hunter ethic of the ol school bowhunters still existed in the general bowhunting population.  Sadly, I am only dreaming, I believe those days have long since passed.  I know that is offtopic, but needed to vent.

I use Chippewa wedge-loc stands and Skyhook steps. I leave the bracket and take my stand and the steps. I can make a bracket for 5-6 bucks and have never had one taken! Shawn

Public land.. "Ya gets yer ticket and ya takes yer chances"

Honestly, anynore, I worry about my stands on my own land.  Way too many folks tresspassing now days especially if they know there are good deer on the property.

I've got 4 climbers locked to trees that have been there since last season. They are a long way back in rough country and I have never seen another hunter around any of them the 3 yrs I've been hunting the areas.

It's behind where I live and when I go by one of them every now and then I'll put oil on the lock.

I don't take them out unless I have to do some work on them and don't then if I can take what I need and do the work where they are. It's just too far for me to haul them in and out. During the season I move them around to whatever place I want to hunt.

I wouldnt leave anything out around here-  bought a lone wolf stands/stix and love it, goes up quick and quiet-- but...................... its sooooo much nicer running out after work and jumping in a stand.

Steve, My reg book reads-Portable tree stands may be used on stateowned
or state-leased lands, U.S. Forest
Service lands and lands of the Muscatatuck,
Patoka River and Big Oaks National Wildlife
Refuges and may be left overnight only
between Sept. 1 and Jan. 10.

I thinks he's talking about during season.
