Firefly 3pc takedown longbow
« on: September 09, 2011, 02:53:00 AM »
I just picked up a 60" 56# @ 28" Firefly longbow today.  First impressions are very good.  fit and finish is very good, the bow is quick, quiet, and hits where your looking.  I was shooting some weighted gold tip 35/55s and while I didn't get a chance to shoot it thru the chronograph is seemed to fling them out there very quickly.  It seemed very comparable to the performance of my bob lee t/d recurve thats 57# @ 29".  So far I'm really impressed with it.   Might have to get a second, heavier set of limbs down the road.   Looks like the firefly bows live up to their reputation.

Hi!
Congratulations  :)
I have  two risers and three set of limbs weight from 43 to 64# and is highly satisfied.

The Firefly longbow is one of the best out there, in fact the Fireflys have several Norwegian records and gold medals from the Norwegian Fita championships  :)

Jim's bow are truly a work art.  Michigan is full of awesome manufactures of just about anything you may ever need.  Congrats on the bow and good luck with it this year.

I've put a couple hundred arrows thru it so far and am still very impressed.   I put a set of wool yarn puff silencers on it and it is now the quietest bow I have ever owned.  Shooting a 560gr weighed gold tip with 3 4" shield cut feathers.   I ordered a EFA 4 arrow quiver for it today.  Hopefully I'll get a chance to get a set of broad head tipped arrows and try to get out and hunt with it.

Moose season is winding down but there are a couple of months of bears left to hunt.

I've been shooting the 200gr phantoms out of my bob lee and crusader, but using 150gr tips to get best flight on the firefly.   Oher than the magnus stinger what other good 2 blade screw in heads out there in 150gr?

Shot it over the chronograph tonight.  THe bob lee is 57# @ 29", the firefly is 56# @ 28" and both are drawn 29.5".  The bob lee will get 180-183fps and the firefly is getting 176-178fps.  I consider that pretty darn good considering the bob lee is a recurve and the firefly is a longbow.  Also the firefly is infinately quieter than the bob lee.

Heydeerman, that's a beauty!  Love that combo, is that black/charcoal on the front with the "woodland/mountain" camo on the back?

I think I've got one you used to own, mine's macassar ebony with juniper limbs.  LOVE that bow, my kids will get to fight over it someday.   :D

Is Jim usually at the K-zoo show?  I really NEED one of his bows, and that would seem to be the best place to hook up with him.  Hate to bother him in the shop.

Heydeerman's bow was one of my favorites, I always tend to like the multi-tone camo bows.

I just put up a new one, it's a "Desert Storm" camo, very nice.
