Want to try some tapered spruce shafts..
I'm shooting a hybrid longbow 48# @27 With 125 gr tips.
Should I get 50-55 spine or 55-60 spine? 11/32

It's just a guess, but 55-60 would give you some latitude for tuning if needed you could use heavier heads to bring it to proper tune.

Gary, that Mikuta is cut to center so Charlie is right on with his recommendation.
If the bow was cut before center you might go with a little lighter spine. The sitka spruce arrows I just built were for a 51# bow that is not cut to center... Dave

If your hybrid longbow has a fast flight or high performance string then you might even want to go 60+ on the arrow spine. Are you going to cut the shafts 28" bop?

Yup, if ya go about 15#s over draw weight ya should be close if ya cut them 28"s, if ya cut them longer add about 4 or 5 pounds of spine for every inch over 28"s. Tell us what bow it and we may be able to be more specific. I had a Shrew that was 51#s at 28" and I draw that and shot 29" arrows that spined around 70#s. Shawn

The FF string usually means you need to bump it up a bit. If it was me I'd go with 60-65# shafts. Right now I'm shooting 70# tapered Sitka Spruce cut to 28" out of 51 and 53# bows. I could get by with 65# spine but I'm shooting 200gr's up front so I went with 70's.

Thanks Ron
Do you think they would work with a 160 gr..
I'm thinking of trying some simmons 160 heads?
Or would it be a trial and error ??

Gary, another suggestion would be to contact Paul Jalon of "Elite Arrows" who is a sponsor on this site. He will sell you 4 different spined completed arrows for $35 delivered that you can try out to see what works best. Might be money well spent. He's been making arrows for long time.
