Scouted and Trail cam set.

Hey guys,

First year I'm going to try hunting and I scouted out a spot with the help of my uncle on some private land today. Set up my trail cam a little ways off pointing toward an active deer trail.

Going tomorrow some time to see if there was any activity overnight as my girlfriend doesn't want to wait until monday to see where I'm hunting, lol.

Wish me luck and if there are any good picks I'll be sure to post them here!

Awesome brother.

I know it is gonna be tough, but onea the best pieces of advise i can give u is to stay AWAY from your camera. Check it once a week at the MAX.

Especially if you are going to be hunting where that camera is.

Well guys I'm excited. Already got the shakes from thinking about seeing this guy again, I readjusted my trail cam the next day as I went out to throw some apple scent bringing my laptop to see if there was any activity...laptop was dead.        THAT'S A BUCK. Sad I can't see how big he is but I know it's a buck and I hope he'll be back      
Camera is re positioned to try and get a better view and I hope I'm rewarded. Won't be going back for a few days now as I'm satisfied there's activity.

I'm sorry to bump this thread, but I have a question for the white tail cannaseur's.

Any way with the above photo's to determine how old it may be? I can tell he's plump and I know there is only one part of an antler shown but, hopeful and excited i guess.

You will need a better picture and they should be coming.

Need better pictures. But, I will say 2 1/2. He isa little thick but mainly his back line looks fairly flat. Kinda hard to tell with those. Even with a pictre of his eyes will help you. A really round eye will most likely be a younger deer. Looks healthy though!

So the buck came back last night, but my camera isn't taking enough pictures but I moved the camera yet again.
 
Hard to see but I guess the heat wasn't picking up, hopefully the new mount spot will get the job done. The deer were there for a while. Apples were all gone.

It is probably not a coincidence that the first time you saw the buck was during shooting hours, and after revisiting several more times the buck is coming at night. They can go nocturnal in an instance.

To give you a perspective; I drive by a field on the way to my house every day. During the spring and summer months, this field has 20-30 deer in it EVERY single evening an hour or so before dark.

This field borders a conservation area.

Come Sept 16th, the day after bow season starts: I NEVER once see any deer in that field again during shooting hours until the next year.

It only takes 1 day of hunting pressure to push these deer nocturnal.

Best time to kill a deer in a spot is the first time you ever go there.  Chances go down fast with each visit.  I go two weeks bewteen checking cameras and like to do my checking when I hunt.  I try not to hunt the same stand more than once a week and like to let it set two weeks between hunts if I can.
