Garage Sale Black Widow Question?
« on: September 18, 2011, 04:08:00 PM »
Found this on a garage sale - thought it was kind of a cool looking bow so I bought it.  Guy said he bought it new in 1980.  Obviously a black widow target bow of some kind.  The only markings I can find are on one of the limbs showing 46# @ 28" and 69" long and the widow sticker.

No markings on the riser at all.  Anyone have any idea what model this might be?  Any information at all?

Thanks

Mitch

I'd come closer to saying 1970 than 1980.  Ken bought it in 1982 and they weren't making many bows the few years before.  And just judging it by the color that light blue would fit to that era.

I have no idea when it was made - just going by what the guy told me - maybe he did not buy it new - it could have been used when he bought it.  He did have some papers in the bow case that were from a tournament he went to in 1982.

Any idea what model it may be?  Did they make a bunch of different kinds?

That is a 1976, H-1226, target model, I have had 3 different ones. Made by Wilson Bros, darn good bows. Ones I had were hunting weight, smooth quiet and enough weight in the riser to hold steady, dont need anty stabilizers. They usually go for around $200-250 in good shape, yours looks nice!

Cool find! You Americans and your garage sales make me jealous! Not to mention your cheap shipping! It is a wonder to me that all American bowhunters don't have several racks full of old bows! Made of stronger stuff than I...

Ben, you Aussies' could have garage sales too, you'd have to go walk about for a couple of months to get there though.  :biglaugh:
Come check some out.

I have sold a couple of bows to Australian shooters, and it amazes me that you can afford to shoot. After paying for the bow, you have to pay exhorbitant shipping to get it to Oz, and then a usurious import duty on top of that.

It's a wonder to me that there are any archers down under, given the expense. Are there more reasonable alternatives for you there?

Sam - Thanks for the info on the bow.  You are right it does shoot nice. It might be a tad long for me to hunt with, but it if fun to shoot on the range.

Hey Sam, Not questioning your identification at all, however I have the red risered version of this bow, and from what I have learned, it is a "T" riser, as opposed to an "H" riser. Is there something that makes that one an "H"?

I also thought they were "1225"'s. Do you have any documentation that I could get a copy of? I'd love to add it to my literature.

Again...not questioning anything, just trying to learn.

By the way...NICE pick up Mitch. My son shoots mine "lights out". They are very surprising bows aren't they? Fantastic shooters.

Thanks Raineman - I would be interested in anything you guys know or find out about these bows too.  I know nothing about them.  I am surprised there is not a serial number or anything on the riser!

I had some old copys of Archery World,Jan 1976, had them in it. The 1225's were different from the 1226's, in that they had a brace added across the empty space, where sight or quiver attachement is on his pic. You are correct about the T, instead of a H. The T models, had white limbs and were longer, red, white, blue or other colors on the risers, and often had chrome plated limb bolts, knobs, stabilizers and weights. Cosmetics were the only basic difference along with the H models haveing shorter AMO and heavier # limbs. I also think the limb bolts were slightly different on the 25s and 26s. Nothing in stone, just what I kept notes on. They added the brace, because of trouble with them breaking risers.
