Arrow crafters I need help!!!
« on: September 27, 2011, 08:15:00 PM »
I am making a set of arrows in memory of four boys who passed in an accident. I am having trouble writing their initials on the arrows(cant focus and my writing sucks to be blunt) its on a 1" band. My first ? is has anyone ever typed on paper and applied it to an arrow and poly uerathaned over it?. and my next ? is do you have any suggestions. I thought about stencils, but the letters are 1/4 in size. Most stencils at that size the letters are way to fat are way to fat. Thanks for any help.Tim

A while back, I was building fishing rods and found a sheet of pressure transfer letters and numbers.  They could be had in many colors including gold and silver.  Don't know if you have a rod builder's supply store around and or you can find them at a craft store but that may be an idea for you.  Should be no problem putting a finish over them.

Yup, pressure transfer or rub on decals should also be available at any large crafts store as well as large rod building suppliers.  There is also a rub on decal paper available that will let you make your own rub on decals with an inkjet printer.  Plan B, find someone with good penmenship and a steady hand to do it for you.

Great idea though!

Tim,

I bought a drafting stencil off the auction site that has 1/8 & 1/4" sizes.  I used a small, fine Sharpie to put the spine numbers on my crown dip before the final over finish.  Worked great!  The height and width were proportional - no fat numbers.  The letters were the same proportions as the letters.

Used it on my string jig, too.  The number here are the 1/4".

Nice thing to do in their memory.

I wish I could tell you where, but decal transfer paper can be bought and printed on with your computer.

The you just cut out your decal, wet it, and slide it onto your arrows. Just like your old car models.

You have to be careful with your clear coat. Light fogging until you are sure you are covered. then a decent coat.

Have wraps made with their names on them and whatever else you may want. Nice thought by the way.
